How close to specs?

I was looking at the box plans sticky but couldn't find a plan that fix my exact needs, even though they all look great. So my question is how much does it matter to match up the box specs to the manufactures specs for a given sub? If the manufacure says 2.0 cubes and tuned to 40hz would I notice that much of a difference if I went with a box at 2.0 cubes and tuned to 36hz? The sub in question is a Memphis Power Reference 12". Any advice?

no that tuning would definantly not hurt the sub
