how close is too close?

so i have had the opportunity to upgrade from a couple tens to a couple 12's. They will be kenwood kfc-w3011 in a sealed box. they will be ran off of a kicker kx600.1

i dry fitted them into my car (72 vw bug). they only fit one way and they are about an inch away from the firewall. Is it bad if they are this close? i dont want to ruin them. thanks for the advice

Id run them and see how close they come to the fire wall/trunk .Run them,and see.I like at the least 4-8 in. minimum.

dang... they wont be getting nearly as far. very limited space and they wont fit vertical. i can try one more position but the best ive gotten is one inch.

35 for mdf, odds and ends may bring the total up to 50-60 bucks. A couple hours to spare. And ya got yourself a little project.

Its sealed so not much of a chance to mess it up.

I suggested a plain ol sealed cuz its the easiest to make.

As long as the cones don't hit anything, you won't hurt the subs. What I'd be worried about most when loading off sheet metal would be rattles. Is there carpet on the firewall or some other deadening material?

Even if the subs are clear, loading off a wall 1" away just doesn't sound to promising. I guess you never really know until you give it a shot.

there is two layers of 50mm sound deadening so its not just metal. looks like im keeping the 10's but will be getting kicker crv's eventually. thanks for the info
