How big an alternator

get a good battery upgrade your general elcetrical systems wires and trash the altenator idea, I spent 400 dollars for an altenator uprgrade in my toyota and I picked up a half db. WHOA! like really, put in a couple extra batteries charge them every now and then and put in a 2nd amp, you'll be a lot happier, trust me.

i can't believe the ignorance in this thread....

first off, caps and batteries need to be charged, so how will an alt keep them charged and run all your car's electrical devices, if it is not big enough for the job?

you'll need to do the big 3 first. then get probably a 250 amp alt alternator, then look into adding a second battery and upgrading the existing battery under the hood

For those recommending a max sized alternator, you have to think, those amps are rated at MAX amperage draw. How often will an amplifier draw MAX current? I can assure you if you are a normal listener, then it will not be often, and even if it does happen every once in a while, your electrical will be able to compensate for the .085 seconds it is drawing max loads. I would say 200A would be plenty enough.

ice reminded me, the batteries are important as well, a big *** alternator and a shitty battery just don't make for a good electrical system.

isn't that amp 4000 watts rms? you have to imagine when he turns it up it's gonna draw a lot of amperage. not sure what's rated at but i'd imagine it's rated at 200-250 amps atleast, so probably around a 100 amp draw, then add a front stage amp, and your car's electrical components.

im thinking a nice 200 amp alt... upgrade the battery under the hood cause there is no sense in keeping a crap battery with a nice alt when your going to be drawing that much current.

Then maybe another battery in back.

Ive have 2 1250.1 kicker amps strapped together makin AROUND 2500 rms at 1ohm. and ran stock alt but 1 red top under the hood and 1 yellow top in back and i never dropped bellow 13.8 volts.... but remeber my alt may be bigger then your stock alt.

Yea but you should know that even a 4000wrms amplifier is not going to pull anywhere near 4kW most of the time. He can turn it up with a 200A alternator and proper battery and be fine I believe.
