Home use?

a computer power supply would sure work! i had a pioneer headunit hooked up to it. i used the decks' internal amp to power my speakers. max draw on that headunit was about 8A:p then the preouts would hook up to the plate amp (available at partsexpress) to run my sub:)

Originally posted by n0pe I USED to have a car amp in my house, now its in my mame arcade cabinet... anyways... all you have to do is get a power supply that is used by a computer AT power (THEY HAVE A SWITCH!!! ATX DOESNT!!!) supply386/486 usually only 250/300 watts. Use the red (+ and REM) ) and black (-)... its simple... only downside is that you can't get extremely high wattage with this type of power supply.
ive' gotten many ATX to work it's just a simple matter of shorting to wires for it to come on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif(normallt gray and green)

Originally posted by shrinkydinx just wondering...what happens if you indoor sys draws more current than the power supply is rated at? does it blow, or does it just not get as loud?
depends..my audio system would just shut down (but power supply is still on)

Thats all you would need. Alot of shops use these and would definetly supply enoguh current for your particular amp.

But using a AT PC powersupply might work as well.....
You can get a tripp-lite PR40 for less than what that 12A unit is going for.

PR40 does 32 amps continuous with under .1V of ripple - I own two of them personally.

Cost you about 160 shipped if you find the right store...

Thats a really nice psu. Well worth the $$ if it does what the specs say it does. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
