Home Theatre Tuning

Too low. The human ear can only hear to 20hz... if you tune it that low, you will only feel it, and would be just easier to get one of those bass shakers that attach to the bottom of your chair. Tune it to 26 in a 5 cubed box... use either 2x 4" Aeros or 1x 6" Aero.
youre an idiot

anyways, 2 4's or 1 6 would be good, maybe do a sonotube in the corner if you cant fit the port in the box. Did you try to mock up any slotports? You know you can have elbows in the ports if a straight peice wont fit. But i think 1 4 wouldnt be enough. Well then again 240w isnt a 'ton' of power so you might be ok. Myself I would go more port and a bigger amp, if you could afford 500w that would be sweet. When you get below 30hz or so you need alot of power or if you have it up loud and there is an explosion or something like that you are gonna hear that amp cry.

Actually, I have about 8 feet of 6" pipe in my garage I forgot about. I'll see how much a 90 degree elbow for it is, but if it's more than $10 I'm just gonna use the 4'' aero.

Tuning this low is VERY common for HOME THEATER subs.

Finally got the box done and everything hooked up. Only running off 50 watts for now, as I STILL haven't gotten the 270 watt Dayton plate amp I ordered. Overall, I'm happy with how it sounds. The final design ended up being 5.5 cubes tuned to 17hz with a 4" aero. With 50 watts, I'm not getting too much port velocity, so I don't think I'll have to worry about chuffing at high volumes.

True, bass shakers will only shake your bottom or back if you attach it inside the back of the chair but a lot of power at 15hz will make it difficult to breathe, a very special feeling.

Check out avsforum and diyaudio for HT sub building, 4 18's IB isn't uncommon in the HT scene

Here are some shitty pictures. I didn't get any during construction, but you can use your imagination.

That's a pretty cool coffee table box, although I'd imagine you could get significantly better response out of it if you placed it elsewhere in the room. Placing it in a corner could give you a dramatic difference.

How's it sound?

Yeah, I'm sure it would probably double output if I put it in a corner but it would look weird. Unfortunately, I went back to college before the amp arrived for it so I only heard it on about 25 watts. It sounded decent, no large dips or peaks in response so I was happy.

I'll give it a real review after I hear it on my Dayton 240. If the Dayton isn't gonna be enough, then I'll just have to move up to that Behringer 2400 watter.
