local car audio ship claims that the 19 thik strand 3/0awg wire at home depot will not carry as much current and that any kind of engine oil will eat through it's coating.....of course they could just trying to sell me thier, and i quote, "mercedez benz of wire" kicker 1/0 for 6 bucks a foot......i haggledem down to 4 buks a foot...still feel like i got *****.....anyway.... i have this 3/0 done for my big 3

......can't i just put a protector thigns around the wire.....and is the gauge is around the same size.

.....this is just 19 thick *** strands as opposed to like 4700+ strands...... is AC power wire so differant it wont do as good a job?, the thickness overall is **** near the same

Most likely the wire from Home Depot will not have an outer jacket/ protective cover that resists oil and gasoline because it's made for homes and buildings. The other bad thing is that it's going to be stiff as all get out. You might as well get a pc of 1in copper tubing and try to route it through your engine compartment. If your working on a budget, I would get the welding wire.

i think i paid maybe 2 bux a foot on sale for my P3 1/0 power wire, and it was well worth every penny, idk how much its goin for on partsexpress.com right now, but i'm sure its not much more.

the stiffness doesnt bother me for doing big 3....just bend it into place......and i can get a covering for it no problem..

question is are the guys tellign me a total lie when they say it wont carry the power the same way the kicker wire will....and yes i bought the kicker...but i still have extra 3/0 laying around for the another rubn to the big 3...

To answer your question, they are wrong for the most part. The only reason amp wire/ cable has more strands is for the flexibility. Now, there may be a small overall difference in the surface area because the amp wire has smaller strands and will have smaller gaps between each strand. The Home Depot wire will have less gaps because the gauge of the individual strands of wire is much larger so they may equal out.

Their just trying to sell you their wire, that's all it is. Why would they say sure, don't buy my wire for $6 a foot, go buy the wire somewhere else for $3 a foot. You know those guys get a little commission for what they sell you. Sales is sales, I would sell you a heater in August here in Texas if you would buy one from me.

there actually is a difference between house wire and car audio wire, not only the strand count and flexibility, but the resistance, house wire can carry generally more current than car wire, but its at a much higher voltage, most 2 awg house wire can carry up to 30 amps or more of current at 120 volts, 120 x 30 = 3600 watts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

PM njsm and ask him where he ordered his spindle @... I support small bussiness, but from my experience, car audio shops are always out to rip you off.
unless you spend soo much time in there, or get a job in there, or know someone that works there thats in really good with the owner that you've known since kindergarden...lol, otherwise i'd forget about walking into a car audio shop cept to check out equipment.
