hey fellas, im looking for a budget amp for my PC audio system. what u have so far is comprsied of car audio gear. i have a set of MAW 6.5 mid bass drivers and some boston tweeters. im gonna put them on a set of clarion passive X over i have kicken around. so that takes car of the top end. the bottem end is a RE RE 8, and can be wired to 2 or 8 ohms, the speakers should be 4ohm each once there through the X overs. im lookin for around 50 watts to each speaker and no less then 100 watts to the sub. would perfer 1 amp for the whole sha-bang

the sonic impact amp seams a little on the daintie side. 15 watts per channel
Trust me. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
My old battery power T-Amp could push my 7" MTM mains to good output levels, and each of them would have (by your mathematics/logic) around 250W power handling.

no need for sarcasim here, this in an honest question and im just goin by what there specs are. the price is right, but i was looking for something with "more power" also the plate amp, is that the dayton audio one. i need 100watt at 8 ohms

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I haven't used any sarcasm anywhere in this thread. And if that's true for the sub amp, get the 240W plate amp instead.
I ask you to please believe me when I say that you don't need nearly as much power as you think you do.

ahhh, ok, i miss understood your coments. the sonic amp, thats the one that can be battery powerd you talked about.

I wouldn't use the T-amp, its adequate for moderate listening levels but with crossover components I doubt the sensitivity of your loudspeakers is very high...

15 watts @ 10% distortion, its really around 9-10 usable watts. They are usually used with high sensitivity full range drivers (95+ db) for this reason...Or a pair is used to Bi-amp...

Was your t-amp modded at all? If so, what did you do to it? In stock form the T-amps had a bass roll off starting at 100hz, so I doubt it was satisfactory, unless you're bass shy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Original plastic t-amp unmodified running off AA batteries. And a filter does not mean your speakers are inefficient. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

10 watts is more than enough if you know what you're doing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Heck...give me 3 watts and I bet I can make you uncomfortable //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Of course not, the bass roll off comment was completely separate from the efficiency comment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Sorry for the confusion, I was merely curious, because without mods and an external power supply the T-amp was VERY bass shy. IIRC it was around 30db down at 40hz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

When I was running My Auras completely full range off my chip amp (10 watts, 86db) it WASN'T enough. At first I thought i was really going deaf, but my roomates agreed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Its probably just preference I guess, but I doubt those MTMs were wildly efficient (I could be wrong, if so enlighten me). So I can't see how a 10 watt T-amp is enough unless you were in a tiny room...

Of course it is enough, so long as your speakers are efficient though, which I mentioned in my post, sillys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Trust me it takes a lot to make me uncomfortable hehe, unless your speakers have 100+db of efficiency, 3 watts will NOT be enough unless its a small room...

To the OP, if your room is small and enclosed it should be fine...If you have the money, buy two and Biamp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Edit: BTW, check ebay for some CHEAP T-amp boards, they aren't the best quality, but acceptable, heres a discussion: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=112395&perpage=25&pagenumber=1

If your not shy with electronics, you can perform a few mods, supply +12VDC via a brick or batteries, and save some cash....
