I was thinking the exact same thing upon reading the post the above was a reply to.

It very well may not have been intentional but it most assuredly happened, unfortunately.

The OP's friend did pass out behind the wheel of his vehicle (for whatever reason) and consequently did cause an accident that resulted in a fatality.

Vehicular or Involuntary Manslaugter charges may very well be in the works for the OP's buddy.

They will probably try and get him with Vehicular Homicide or Involuntary Manslauder at least. Can't kill someone and not expect some kind of charges unless it was that persons fault or self defense on your part.
