Holy shit.. Kobe Bryant!!

I don't have a beef with MLK... his birthday should not be a "Federal" holiday though. The man NEVER held office. Celebrate him, sure... a federal holiday... no. Unless it is a holiday because the government feels guilty about assassinating him... or they are celebrating assassinating him... who knows. The point is, he was not and never was a government employee so to make it a federal holiday was erroneous because he was a private citizen.

Wtf? You could of said Jesus Christ birthday. Would've been a lot less racist sounding

Nothing I said was racist in any way... if someone takes it as racist then maybe they should talk to someone about their own feelings and ask why anytime someone speaks of someone of color they jump to racist thoughts. I merely stated that he was a private citizen who never held office so his birthday should not be a federal holiday.

I'm not so sure you understand the definition of a holiday and why the government recognizes a holiday. Has nothing to do with former employees, holding office etc

Each he's own. You don't like MLK day being recognized by the government. Weird.

I do understand the definition of a holiday and I understand what a "Federal Holiday" is as well. It has everything to do with one holding office when it comes to a person. As a matter of fact it was voted on and denied on that basis the first time the idea was brought up... it eventually was voted on again some time years later and in spite of him not being a former federal employee the vote passed. The persons voting at that point had a different agenda. Furthermore, I don't think Columbus day should be a federal holiday either. Most people could care less why and just want their free money and day off.

Where is it stated that a Federal holiday named after a person, that, said person must've held office? Is this a federal law? Or, is this an unwritten rule, like some sports have?

Maybe you should care less. Days like MLK jr. day and people making a big deal over a basketball players death won't matter. Who cares if he's someone's heroe. Who cares if he's all over the news. Who cares if MLK Jr is a federal holiday. I know i don't and never even thought about till it was brought up
And I still don't care.

Who cares if someone is a hero? Really? My grandfather was a hero. He saved many American Soldiers lives and fought for this country. Playing basketball is not heroic. So when the word "hero" is thrown around and used mindlessly, it strikes a nerve.

The thing I find hilarious about people who care so much about MLK is the fact that they're the same people who judge people by the color of their skin and not the content of their character

That's the thing about personal freedom we have the right to pick and choose who our heroes are. So yeah who gives a damn if he's someone's heroe? I mean I guess besides you
