so if my amp is 95% efficient, running 1400 rms, and i only play system while driving, wouldnt 160 be enough... or CLOSE to it

i just talked with scott from ascendant audio and he told me the 160 alt definately help over a 105. he says no question about it, defantely a better bet to go with an alt instead of a battery he said. thx scott!

Why wouldn't you do the big 3 in 0/1 ga? That would probably help out even more that the alt would.

Yes, 160 will be better than 105 (obviously). The point that everyone is trying to get to you is that it wouldn't be THAT big of a difference, therefore not being worth the extra cash your going to spend on it.

No I don't have the best system here (not even close), but I have done more research than most people here, so I feel like I can answer your question educationally, but if you do the big 3 in 0/1 ga and add a batt in the back you will never have to worry again. Probably cheaper than buying the alt, having it installed, and buying the optima. It's just not worth it. Now if you go up to a 200 amp alt, then you'll get some better responses here.

the alt is 130 shipped, not super expensive. i was never planning on buying an optima.. thats why i just want to spend on an alt. and yea prolly should do big 3 in 1/0. ill get that done in a week or 2. i find it funny that if an alt someone suggests isnt 200+ automatically everyone just like o dont be a pus sy even though im not trying to run 2000 watts or anything.. just 1400

Are you seeing voltage drop? If so, I would do the big 3 in 0/1 ga first and see if that helps, if not then if your still set on it, then go ahead and buy it. But don't expect it to fix everything right away (not that it's not possible that it will fix it, just saying it probably won't).

no im not seeing voltage drop now. i had it on idle the other day and had a dmm to the power and negative terminals on amp and it was hovering between 13.7-14.0. the system was turned up all the way. but theres no possible qway to get 1400 watts out of a 105 amp alt and a normal bat under the hood right?
