i just got off the phone with a store whos selling the 160 amp alt (80 at idle) and hes telling me that id need an optima battery, or something 1000? right now i have a duralast. Shouldnt this be ok? im running 1400 rms with the big 3 done in 4 gauge

No the improvement will not be huge. That's not really a big jump at all. Also, the battery is irrelevant to what the alternator will put out.

Chaos isnt really being a dick man, hes trying to tell you its not worth your money to upgrade to that alt. Save up and get a higher quality, higher output alt.

I know you dont want it...but Ill give you detailed.

80 amps at idle is enough to keep the car running, with everything on. Your amp at 1400 rms is pulling about 97 amps if it 100% efficient which it is not (no amp is) so that means you would need 160 amps at an idle at a minimum to keep everything cool. So thats 60 amps to the car and 97 to your amp which realistically would be higher due to the efficiency deal. Its just not enough, can you do it? Of course you can. Is it correct? No it isnt...Im sorry its not what you want to hear, but you did ask.

As well if you ARE going to buy it then yes buy a big deep cycle and it will bandage it for you, for a while im sure. Ill leave you alone now.

105amp alt should be completely fine for 1400wrms.....just get a decent battery in the back and bam done....prob wont see under 13volts.....
