You have to figure your cars needs in to this as well. You have to account for atleast 800 watts for the car. 1200 watts (support of hc1200) -800 leaves 400 watts of support.

****. My budget is really only for one battery. It makes sense though. If I were to get another battery it would be a 2400. Or could I keep my interstate up front and have a 2400 in the trunk?

Don't listen to these people. You have plenty with that alt. The voltage shouldn't drop to where the battery discharges so they really won't matter in this scenario. I don't know who audiolife is, but he posts like this a lot. Sure if money were no object you could put 1 million kinetik batts on a trailer and pull it around and murder like hell. Instead, you have an adequately sized alternator and the only battery necessary is the one to start your engine. You're doing it right. Don't listen to these guys.

An alt that size should power a 1500w amp w/no problems whatsoever.
I think you'd be fine with an additional 500w comp amp as well.
No need to sweat this one.
One good battery (standard or high end) will work fine.
I'm running 1500w rms with a stock 110A alt and standard battery with only minor dimming at high volume.
I believe most people with comparably sized systems would report similar results.

So if I were to upgrade to a hc1200 or a yellowtop that firs under the hood, I would be fine with my current setup and can even add a comp amp (which are my plans)? I figured even if the battery were smaller, the 270 amp alt wouldn't let my battery die.

While the engine is started, your battery isn't doing anything. You're right the 270 amp alt not only won't let it die, it will keep it charged up nicely since it's not doing anything. Current is drawn from the highest source of potential (voltage) in a parallel circuit. What does this mean? It means your battery might charge up in the 13v range, but can only discharge very little current at this high of a voltage. The voltage drops rapidly and then it begins discharging heavily in the high 12's. While your alternator is on and the regulator can keep the voltage up at or above 14v, your battery is not doing anything. All current is being drawn from your alternator.

Ok then lol. Don't know much about electrical. Well I guess I'm goin with a deep cycle up front and a 270a alt. Just makin sure this is goin to be able to live up to 1500 rms load and a comp amp later?

Is there a difference in the hc1200 and the 34/78 or 35 yellowtop? Those 2 will fit for sure.
Ok why don't we all run the smallest battery out there that starts our cars? Stock alt is large enough to cover the vehicle it is put in isn't it? Just saying I know quite a few people who tried to run cars off of a tiny battery and no audio system and the things like electric seats and air conditioning were ripped out. Those small batteries tend to fail in 6 months to a little over a year regardless if it was daily driven or not. If an auto maker could save money and weight by tossing in any old battery that just starts the car why dont they?

I don't think you know what you're talking about. My vehicle didn't come with a large battery and neither do most vehicles. They put whatever rinky dinky battery they can in there that will start the engine and run the radio with the engine off for a while. You cannot prove mathematically or scientifically that a battery is discharging when an alternator is able to keep its charge up around 14v, which it should in a stock system all the time. Until you do that, you fail.
