HO alt or second/third battery?

Another question.

Currently running 1500+ watts, on full power my lights are dimmin like a mofo.

stock 150amp alternator. stock battery under hood, yellow top in back with amp/subs.

should i spend the 350-450 for an alternator upgrade, or should i just get a second yellow top for the rear and replace the stock battery?

note: considering going to 3,000 watts... in that case, is that another case where i need more batteries or should i just go with the HO alt?

 
what size alt is this that dims heavily off of 1500w? have you checked your voltage drop. dimming really isnt the best way of seeing how much voltage you drop.

if its serious, i will stand by each and everyday, an HO alt before a good battery. but realistically you will need both when you up the power to 3kw

and i mean it only happens when i mean im hittin full tilt on the shit where i know if i turn it up any more theres a chance of clipping the amp.

voltage really doesnt drop TOO much unless its on full load.

i think what i'm considering is a 260-280amp iraggi..

question is when i get another battery, should i tie it in in the rear with the other yellow top, or replace the stock under the hood battery?

you got any numbers as far as voltage goes? if its not to bad you should be able to solve it by upgrading the batt under the hood and adding a nice one in the back. even then, my buddy was running 3kw of a 130A alt (and the batteries listed below) and it seemed to do ok. which is why im a little suspect of your situation. what class is that amp?

for 3kw you are going to need to upgrade for sure. my buddy is running about 3kw @ 1 ohm off a 220A, 1 g34 deka under the hood, and 1 g31 deka in back. works awesome. i havent gotten any V readings yet, but it seems like its doing just fine, hardly and i mean hardly dims.

with almost a 300A alt (if iraggi comes through...) you can probably get away with just a nice g31 up front (if you can fit it).

http://www.remybattery.com has deka g31 batteries for $140 plus shipping. they are really good batteries IMO. this site actually has lower prices than what i can get straight from the deka warehouse.

with a 260A alt i would put the yellowtop up front and a g31 in the back (ie, deka intimidator, yellow top, hc2400). you should be alright IMO. i mean you can get the hc2000, but considering the price of the g31 deka, you can get more bang for the buck. if you can get a bigger g31 for the same or less than the hc2000, why not go for the biggest you can get.

i definitely wouldnt buy a red top. if your going to buy a red top you can just buy a walmart lead acid battery for much cheaper (red top is a liquid lead acid).
