Hmmm, to the puter geeks

AGP = outdated crap ... Anyone who goes with AGP in this day and age is a moron unless, of course, they already have an excellent AGP card ...
First of all, you're so ****in cool....you're money and you don't even know it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Seriously now, I was thinking of getting into computer gaming some day but my current desktop only has PCI, not PCI express either. I was looking at the PCI xpress option but I was thinking since AGP is not the newest thing anymore woudn't I be able to get some good graphics processing for cheap by going the AGP route? Or will the AGP cards be disappearing off the shelves here very soon??

BTW, I was thinking about building my next computer other than buying one.

AGP will probably stick around for a while...you can still get PCI video cards:crazy: and there is even an ATI card that has both PIC-e and AGP interfaces (will have to dig up the linky again) If you guys want to join a great computer forum got http://www.bleedinedge.com good guys over there

Hey, thanx for all that info. I told you you were fucking cool.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ok, you don't have to answer this if you don't want to but I have NO CLUE of what a "pipeline" is in regards to graphics processing.

So you're going to wait until June 2007 (a year) or later to buy your new system ? Awesome ... Windows XP will continue to be supported for several years after Vista is released anyways and, by the time Vista becomes a must-have OS, it'll be time to upgrade, anyways ...
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif to every post you've made in this thread ...
I'd rather upgrade once than upgrade twice, ya.

That's not that unreasonable....

I never said it was the cooler alternative, not that too many people think spending all their $$ is the coolest thing to do anyways.

damn I was wrong, my graphics card is AGP, not pci, I must have got it mixed up with my friends comp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Yeah, it's a shitty agp card (GeForce 4 MX420-SE), but if I am getting a comp with no on board video, then I guess I gotta get somethin with AGP.

So, should I upgrade my case with dis paycheck, and save about $50 more and wait until next paycheck (2 weeks) and get a little better board?

Sounds like a good plan. My mom is getting impatient tho, cuz her computer='s total shit and Iam giving her my computer which is a lil better. Maybe she can give me the extra dough so I can get a good mobo since I am giving her my computer.

Mooching off ya parents FTW

I don't think you could even give that card away ... Integrated graphics would be INIFINTELY better (other than S3 integrated graphics), that's how bad it is ...
GeForce4 MX420-SE

Core - 250 MHz x 2 Pipelines = 500 MPixels/s

Memory - 166 MHz x 64-bit = 1328 MB/s

GeForce 6150 Integrated GPU using Dual Channel PC3200

Core - 475 MHz x 2 Pipelines = 950 MPixels/s (90% faster)

Memory - 400 MHz x 128-bit = 6400 MB/s (382% faster)

GeForce 6100 Integrated GPU using Dual Channel PC3200

Core - 425 MHz x 2 Pipelines = 850 MPixels/s (70% faster)

Memory - 400 MHz x 128-bit = 6400 MB/s (382% faster)

ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Integrated GPU using Dual Channel PC3200

Core - 333 MHz x 2 Pipelines = 666 MPixels/s (33% faster)

Memory - 400 MHz x 128-bit = 6400 MB/s (382% faster)

Intel GMA 900 Integrated GPU using Dual Channel PC3200

Core - 333 MHz x 4 Pipelines = 1332 MPixels/s (166% faster)

Memory - 400 MHz x 128-bit = 6400 MB/s (382% faster)

S3 Unichrome Pro Integrated GPU using Dual Channel PC3200

Core - 200 MHz x 2 Pipelines = 400 MPixels/s (25% slower)

Memory - 400 MHz x 128-bit = 6400 MB/s (382% faster)

How much money were you planning on spending ?

What do you want your computer to be able to do ?

Are you buying a new monitor and/or printer, too ?
Basically, I just want the computer to be fast for applications and such. Not really plan on becoming a gamer anytime soon. The only games I wanna play are NFSU2 and GTASA, which my computer will play now. My applications, like photoshop are kinda slow. I have this AMD Athlon XP 2400 with a GB of ram, but the computer hangs on some programs, and freezes alot. I want a computer that I will be able to upgrade if I wanted to play alot of games later on. Plus i like to experiment with overclocking //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif There aren't really many processors for socket 462 (thinks that's what this is) that would make a huge difference, so I decided to get a new board.

If you're not playing games, integrated graphics or a low-end graphics card (GeForce 6200TC (64-bit), 7300GS, or X1300 Hypermemory) will suffice.
If you want a computer that doesn't hang and freeze and is capable of overclocking, you're definitely going to want a good motherboard, then ... For overclocking, you'll also need good memory,a good power supply, a good heatsink & fan, and good case flow, too ...

No ... S3 = shit ... Not only slow, but also has terrible driver support, thus making its compatibility poor ...

If you're looking at integrated graphics, look for a Nvidia nForce4 motherboard with a GeForce 6100 or 6150 GPU ...
Mirage is what's on my mobo right now. is it better than my card?
