High SQ Subwoofers for around $200: 8", 500W amp. ID, SA, Dayton, JL

Did you see the link posted by Vertex Audio? http://www.caraudio.com/forums/supporting-vendors-*new*/592919-new-ultra-alv-8-sql-goodness.html
According to that Ultra PRM 8 has an EBP of 104.1. I still wouldn't buy anything that has no official specs and isn't even listed on the official webpage.

I read that Qts is more important than EBP for determining sealed vs ported. Can anyone shed some light on this?
It is a brand new product for which where are specs and testing that has been done. They used to have a good site but it went down a while ago. I understand not wanting to buy something without being able to research it first.

The Dayton looks like a fine sub, i've used their Reference line with good results.

General consensus is EBP less than 50 you want sealed. EBP between 50-100 and you can do either. EBP higher than 100 and you want ported. But that one number is just a guideline and you still factor the rest of the parameters and the environment into consideration.

Can't you get another aa assassin 8?
Because I don't want to get another one of the same sub that failed. And also because AA doesn't usually come up in high SQ recommendations. I know I didn't drive that sub to failure because it was installed by pros and I don't even like high bass. Mostly interested in large dynamic range and SQ and the music I play is classical and alternative mostly. Unless they offer me a deep discount, I am not sure I'll go with them.

I have also calculates Qb and Qtc and it seems that the speakers vary even more wildly than before. I think that at this point I have to just use a modeling software like the Unibox or WinISD Pro that takes into account all the parameters and gives me an idea of which speaker will fit my box better. I've also looked into TC Sounds, Tang Band, and Morel since they seem to be other SQ oriented brands. I was told that the Dayton is supposedly a better choice than the ID for a sealed box because ID had a Qts of 0.332 (supposedly anything below Qts below 0.4 needs to be ported, some sources say 0.5 or 0.35 though), even though the EBP of 67 says that sealed should work too. All of this is just too confusing. Some say EBP is a better indicator, others say Qts is better. It's also interesting how the Vas of ID is 44L, whereas any other sub on my list doesn't even get to 17L. Such a significant deviation must be either good or bad, hence I think the modeling.

you may be able to contact SPLaudio and have him make you a recone that would take the power you have keep the SQ and may increase the output?
Reconing is going to cost me about $75. I can get a brand new Dayton for about $105, so it doesn't make sense to invest in my broken sub.

I am not really happy with Ascendant Audio's service. It's been five days since I first contacted them and no one got back to me. Every other manufacturer had a pretty quick turn around. ID even sent me a complete BassBox model of their ID8 based on my box size. When you call AA, there is a message by some girl and you can't even tell you've reached AA. I gave them a chance all those years ago because they really pitched me how high quality their stuff is, but given the poor/lack of customer service and possibly poor quality design of their subs, I am not getting a sub from them again.

that's fine however when you recone its as if you have a brand new sub
