hey, im looking for a amp that will push two alpine type r 12s. i was looking at a usamp xt-4000d . it pushes 1500 watts rms into one ohm with 89 s/n ratio. i want something in the price up to 350.00 and no less than 1200 watts rms . i am looking for good sound quality and effiency.

I haven't used any of the new US Amps stuff but I've heard good things. Those aren't exactly their old school stuff but from everything I've heard still good quality and I would think a good choice, although you might be able to do a little better for the money, especially if you're willing to buy used or refurb like was said above. I still think you can't go wrong with US. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The Merlin is a step up but would probably blow your budget, I think it was the MD2 I saw going for about $500 new on Ebay not too long ago.

ya i think i agree i can get alot of amps for 350. i just think that the us amp would have the best sound quaility and use the least power. i wonder though there was a review in the car audio mag about the clairion pdx-1800 and it was a good review and had what i was looking for . to power one sub. they have a step up the 1500 watts rms and they are certified .i can get that for 289.99 on ebay you ever heard of these amps

1) I wouldn't worry so much about the "sound quality" of the amplifier

2) Why do you think the US Amps are inherently more efficient than most others ? While good amps, their efficiency isn't anything dramatically superior to competitors.

What impedance are your Type R's? Dual 2ohm/coil or dual 4ohm/coil ?

Also..while Clarion isn't mentioned much around these parts...they are good amplifiers aswell.

i have dual 4 ohms so i need 1 ohm stable ,and to me a s/n ratio of better than 70 and less than one % thd at rated power makes a big difference . alpine and mtx rockford all those peices are a lesser sound quality and to me it does matter .it makes the difference when imaging and how clean the power is put to the speaker .THD will lead to thermal coil if played for a while . all these things are minor but every one has ears and knows what sounds different and i have good ears . but i am thinking going with the clarion

Too much wrong with those statements to really get into it.

Clarion amps are solid.

Should make you happy.

are you guys saying that you can not hear the difference from a 67 s/n to a 87 s/n if thats is so than i guess im not human i can tell and have tested so with the hundred or so installs i do a year . i thought maybe someone here had some hands on time with the amps i mentioned and actually gave a crap
