High powered car audio = hp

please explain how voltage magically stayed constant when you rev your engine making the alternator rotate faster.

Voltage regulator that is built into the alternator. It won't charge over a certain voltage.

However when you take the battery out of the system, and rev it..it will charge to 24+++ volts..and fry everything in the car.

So..don't do it.

I don't believe you. Please make a vid to prove it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

i've heard from a mechanic that disconnecting the positive terminal from the battery while the car is on may cause the airbags to deploy...

reason being that the car may think an accident occurred and the + terminal got ripped off...

Not sure if this is 100% true, though. Just something to think about before the next time you try and test your battery or alt.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Before you ***** at me, learn your shit about car basics. Absolutely 0 current from your alt drives any electrical system in your car. Your alt only charges your batt. All accessories run off your battery solely.
Learn OUR shit???

Look genius. This is about as basic as it gets.

Car battery - 2.1v/cell, 6 cells. Total voltage of a healthy battery - 12.6v.

Voltage of a typical alternator at idle 14-14.4v. That alone should tell you the alternator IS the voltage source in a running car.

Ideally, the ONLY thing the battery is used for is to start the car (and provide power when the car is off). A lot of us tap into the battery a little bit at high volume, but this is fine as the alt is charging the majority of the time.

It would probably be a good idea if you do a lot of reading and not a whole lot of posting.
