High powered car audio = hp

So I can pull almost 1500W with my setup.. That's a straight conversion to about 2 horsepower. My car can produce about 140 hp. What effect would this have on gas mileage? I'm sure this has been asked before? And some people will probably say neglegible but a full two hp gets robbed from the wheels and sent through that batt and converted into sound waves. There has to be some loss in mpg.

if you smash the gas pedal all the way to the floor(to need 140hp) and run a tone at 0db(to draw the current) for that period, that's 2 hp. I'd worry more about hauling the extra weight in my car CONSTANTLY.

I really really hate to sound like a prick...... but..... who cares?? You gotta PAY to PLAY..... The last thing I worried about when I added my 250A alty, all the extra weight of subs and enclosures, sound damping, and current draw on the van was how it was going to affect my MPG... It's standard tradeoff, laws of physics, for every action there's an opposite and equal reaction.... Besides, you can't take the $$$$ with ya, may as well spend it on something you like.

Your car may be making 140 hp, but is that at the wheels or crank? There's about a 40% loss with an automatic transmission and other factors, so a 2 hp loss at the crank is negligible at the wheels for most purposes including gas mileage.

Music is dynamic, you are hardly EVER... producing 1500watts.

Also, the current comes from your alternator... NOT battery unless the alternator is overloaded.

Think you need to do some more research/reading instead of just finding out 746watts = 1HP and running with it... ***.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Before you ***** at me, learn your shit about car basics. Absolutely 0 current from your alt drives any electrical system in your car. Your alt only charges your batt. All accessories run off your battery solely.

And I don't really care about mpg, it was just a fun question. I'd rather hear peoples ideas rather than "who cares." if you don't care, then don't comment

Start your car up and remove your battery. Do not rev the engine.

Once your car is started it runs off of the alternator. The battery is only there for reserve, if you are drawing more current then your alternator can produce, then you start drawing current from your battery. Other then that, it's all on your alternator once running.
