so my little celica has a big ol 80 or 90 amp alt...ehh.. soon ill be putting out roughly 1800 watts, could be up to 3k.

but lets keep this a basic thread,

are alternators pretty universal? or do each and every car need a specific style of alt?

could i go into a scrap yard, pull a 130 amp or something out of an Toyota Suv or something, and swap it in?

yes these may be dumb questions, but i have never dealt with alternators.

If you can find a the same make but a different model car that has a bigger alt then you might be able to find one thats basically identical as far as the mounting and harness. probably a long shot.

All auto parts are coded so if you found the line of coding for the different alts used in your make then it would be easier to narrow your search down.

Companys like to reproduce the same parts but with slightly different features as to save as much money as possible.

the rule is 70 amps of current for every 1kw of powa used. and about 30 amps -50 amps to run a normal car. if you have a bunch of shit added, flood lights, cb, winch ect. then you need more.

Ya I saw that but he said 1800 at first so for that he can just get another batt...
I don't see why everyone always says to "just get a battery" when a high output alternator is mentioned. Another battery, especially a high power output one, is going to cost just about as much as a high output alternator anyway, so you might as well nip the problem in the bud and just get a high output alternator.

An alternator is an alternator you can take one from a chevy and use it in a ford or yota The only thing that maters will be getting it to fit and bolt in. as for wiring you will have to clip and redo the wires at the harness since they won’t plug together. If you can do it for $25 bucks that would make way more sense than buying a HO that’s finicky and has low output at idle. As for brands of HO alts in my opinion there is only one, the one that most competitors use Ohio generator.
