I haven't been on in a while, mostly because I finished up building the Audio system in my Audi...only to get rid of the Audi.
I apologize for the lengthy post but I want to give as much info as possible about my issues and goals.
I now have a 2011 Nissan Frontier Crew cab. As with any factory sound system (does not have the RF audio), it doesn't sound very good. I have some equipment from my Audi that I am going to use but I have some general questions that I would like some opinions on.
First of all, I plan on keeping my factory HU intact (I have my reasons including the fact that I like the clean look). I plan on using my Audiocontrol LC6i that I had in my Audi to merge my channels and give me preouts to incorporate my amp. I also have an MBQuart Discus 480 amp that I took out of my Audi (80w per channel at 4ohm).
Now comes the questions. My front doors utilize a 6x9 speaker (i have 3.5" of mounting depth according to BB) and then there are tweeters in the far corners of my dash (these are not crossed over and they sound awful). The imaging is terrible. It sounds like I have 4 seperate speakers up front. My first problem is what do I put in my front doors. I don't want to drill holes in my door cards in my new truck for tweeters but don't want the factory location for the tweeters. I think I have 2 options here. I could get a set of 6.5" components and use a 6x9 adapter plate and mount the tweeter on the plate next to the woofer. That would be pretty straight forward but I hate finding a place for crossovers. My second idea was a set of drop in 6x9s. I know it is against conventional wisdom but I was thinking of something like a set of RF power series 6x9s that have the inline crossovers to the tweeters that are mounted in front of the woofer. I kind of like this idea for ease of installation. Whatever option I go with I will mount the matching speakers in my rear doors (6.5" coax). What do you all think?
Down the road I am thinking of a 10" sub and will then get an amp to power it. There are some slick under rear seat boxes that I have found that would work but the most mounting depth I would have to work with would be about 5". Any ideas in this department?
Thanks everybody!
