So I've had this problem for awhile and figured today I'd ask about it. I have 2 12in subs powered by Alpine amp, Pioneer in dash DVD player with 5in speakers in the doors and in the back that came in the car. When I turn my volume up after a bit my highs/mids (coming out of the cars speakers not connected to the Alpine amp) seem to get distorted like they are under powered. My subs continue to hit just fine with no distortion. Sometimes the highs/mids will almost cut out completely and all i'll hear is the bass from the subs. I also have a capacitor for my Alpine amp (cause I blew an Alternator awhile back and didn't want that happening again). I'm just wondering, since the mids/highs are being driven by the head unit via the wiring harness (since i dont have a separate amp for them) are they distorting because the head unit isn't putting out enough wattage to drive them? Or is it some other power issue from the battery or something? (Battery is basically brand new). Any suggestions on narrowing it down to find my problem? Should i look into another amp for the highs/mids (even tho im pretty sure on my last, non-screen head unit everything worked fine)
Another maybe related issue, my antenna is loose at the housing where it connects to the fender and when I move it around sometimes it will actually cut the power to the head unit off completely and i'll see it restart....any idea what thats about...happens even when playing a CD and not just radio
