Do you think it could handle a .7 ohm load? I'm looking at a sub with d1.4 coilsThe amp will work with 18 gauge wire supplying it. But the problem is that when you rob the amp of its needed power you cause all sorts of slow but sure damage to the amp and the speakers connected to it.
If you use that amp with four gauge you'll eventually burn the coils out of whatever speakers you run and over time, you'll burn the amp up. The reason being that when the amp is starved for current, it will increase the voltage it draws but since it cant get more voltage, it will clip a lot sooner and a lot worse than if it had a good clean signal with proper power.
Wrap a rubber band around your bicep and carry on about your business. Your hand and arm will work fine at first but over time it will become weak... until it finally turns blue and falls off. ;-)
In other words... if it wants 2 gauge, run some 1/0 to it and enjoy! You'll never have to worry about it turning blue and falling off.
It says max 2 gauge... could i force 1/0 into it?The amp will work with 18 gauge wire supplying it. But the problem is that when you rob the amp of its needed power you cause all sorts of slow but sure damage to the amp and the speakers connected to it.

My only problem is I can't find good 2 gauge anywhere haha. I was going to run 4 gauge since a guy can give me a really good deal on some. Maybe i'll run 4 gauge and get one model lower, only i dont want to underpower my sub 400wTo my knowledge that amp isn't stable below one ohm. You could try it but in the long run, it's most likely going to damage it. You're better off running it at 3 ohms and playing it safe. And if you get good electrical to it, it will produce good power at 3 ohms.
And no, don't try and force 1/0 into a 2 gauge hole. Get a Distribution block or a reducer that you can step down to 2 gauge with. Or, if you seriously don't plan to ever increase amp power, run 2 gauge.

I assume you've run performance tests on 4,2 and 1/0 gauge wire in your vehicle with the current setup? Because otherwise, you wouldn't know how the smaller wire affects voltage drop, current rise and stress on the amplifier's power supply and the alternator. Right?I have a burtus 1700.1d running off 4 ga and have no issues, u dont need to run 1/0 ga or 2 ga, 4ga is enough
your better off spending money on extra battery and volt meter.
