HiFonics, true scammers

It's easy enough to figure out HiFonics is a zombie company, but they're really scamming people now. I grabbed a pair of the Hifonics ZS65C Zeus Series 6.5" 400-Watt 2-Way components think for $30, I'll take one for the team. Was going to install them in a budget build project but decided to pop open the "crossover" to see if I could split it. That's no 12db crossover baby....

I guess I can easily split this "crossover" but after that, they're going right back to Walmart.

From their website:

https://hifonics.com/zs65c/

CROSSOVER TYPE: Passive Butterworth Smooth transition of frequencies from midrange/midbass to the tweeter element

CROSSOVER SPECIAL: In-Line 12 dB Premium capacitors help create a smooth component system with exacting crossover points

I know, I know, for $30..what was I expecting... anyway, buyer beware!

It's pretty common to pull off a 12db slope by applying a single capacitor in series with the tweeter because they combine the rolloff of the cap with the tweeter's natural rolloff, so it's a 6dB electrical filter but a 12dB acoustic slope. The fact that there is no inductor for the woofer can be chalked up to the same thing if it's a poly cone. Many manufacturers will let them play wide open and this can sound much better than you might think. They behave pretty well on the top end and rolloff in predictable manner that is complimentary to the target cross point of 12dB around 2K or so.

It's not a scam, especially at the $30 price point. I mean what do you really expect when you get two woofers, two tweeters and a crossover for $30?

Sorry, I can't agree. The box and website say 12db crossover. The crossover box is also intentionally misleading. They could have just put the cap inline and saved the plastic box. But they didn't because they were trying to mislead.

I’ve never seen a 6.5 not have a huge spike after it beams. But like said, what did you expect. It’s only a scam if they cost to much.
So you can write whatever you want on the specs but as long as you don't overcharge for it, all is good?

Yeah, I'm saying that it is a 12dB crossover with the combined rolloff of the driver and cap. 12dB slope is a 12dB slope no matter how you arrive there. Picking up what I'm laying down?

He's saying you didn't get scammed. You didn't pay a premium only to receive fakes or outright garbage. You paid very little and received very little.

They arent lying, you are getting a 12 db crossover on the tweeter. Cianzo already explained it perfectly. You just have ridiculous expectations out of a 30 dollar component setup. You feeling like you need a whole well designed crossover network with adjustable slopes is completely a personal issue. Not a scam.

AND I FKING HATE HIFONICS as a company. Why you gotta make me defend it? I feel fking gross.

Yep, at the amplifiers. I get the same 14.7 volt reading when they cutoff too.

Yes, they are painted. The cover is very easy to take off and repaint to whatever color of choice to match the install.
