Hifonics Remote Volume Control

i got a good deal on a slightly used hifonics bx1500d. however, the person i bought it from did not have the remote volume control. anways, i just want to make sure that when operating the amp without the remote bass control, it has no adverse effects. correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm guessing the hifonics is set at "high" by default and by using the remote volume control, you can lower the output. i have no need for the volume control since my eq/crossover has it built-in. so far it works perfect. but i just want to make sure if the volume control required. the guy gave me a week to test out. thanks!

It's a control for the bass boost as I understand it, not a real sub level control. It controls the level of the bass boost from 0 to whatever level you have the boost control on the amp itself set at. Not very useful IMO, as bass boost won't make up for power which is what really makes the boost.

thanks! i myself never use the bass boost. if what you're saying is true, i can definitely do without the remote volume control.

Gain settings are not in dB.

Don't have my HiFonics amp in yet but in reading the description of the amp nothing implies that it is a gain control, only a bass boost control.

"The HFR1 is an in-dash remote bass boost control for HiFonics Zeus and Nemesis series amplifiers. Provides up to 18dB of "Power From The Gods" boosted bass fury. Plugs into the phone jack on any 2003 and newer Zeus or Nemesis series amplifier".

I have my old old PPI remote bass control "Q-Bass" in front of me and it controlled the Variable 0-18 dB Bass Boost just like the HiFonics.

The controller is an attenuator. Set at 18, it's the same level as if you unplugged it. I have my bass boost on the amp set to zero. I still think it controls the gain. Anyone who has it care to input on what they think it controls and why? I see this question asked all the time.

Bass boost, "up to 18dB of "Power From The Gods" boosted bass fury", and attenuating bass output are not the same thing either, yet it claims to do both. Call it what you want, but it doesn't work the same as the single frequency "bass boost" control that is on the amp.

I will tell you now. The remote controller on the hifonics series amps is a remote bass boost but it also effect the gain level. When I had my remote hooked up, it was nearly impossible to set the gain level correctly on my amp because the remote bass boost always seemed to override it. Thats when I decided to do away with my remote knob....matter of fact I dont even have a clue where it is anymore.

Actually a good low-pass level control on a good outboard crossover would be much more useful.

That is how my PPI acted however since gain is never mentioned anywhere in any ad or the website I don't know why people think it controls the gain in any way (don't you think if it could they would tell you). It is a bass boost and you are using it on subs increase the boost you get more bass it's not louder (you are not magically pushing more power to the subs). To me it's the same effect as "LOUD" on a car radio.

Do whatever and believe whatever you want.. I don't even have my amp in (come on tomorrow!!).

I think its nice to have really, screw all the technical crap about it. When i listen to rock i turn it down. When i listen to rap and i want it to hit harder i crank it up. But to buy a seperate one its about 30$. I dunno if its worth that.

I never implied that it magically pushes more power to the sub. I said it ATTENUATES the signal. The bass boost, loudness button, etc boosts certain frequencies. The remote bass control does NOT do that..
