Hifonics or Orion or WHAT??

That's a bad guess. Unless Hifonics changed the internals of the Brutus, I'de bet the 1605 only puts out around 1400 watts @ 14.4v Max rms.

And while on the discussion of sound from the Brutus to the Orion, It was night and day for me. The brutus had some overhanging problems and the orion just hits much smoother. I did notice the power difference only due to the effeciency and cleaner signal of the orion.

In my experience the Orion is a much better amp.

while I dont personally buy into the whole clean versus dirty arguement, I will say (obviously) the orion is better built.

At 12 volts the Hifonics is still going to put out 1200 - 1300... What do you think the orion *1200d* is going to put out @ 12 volts?

Even *if* the arguement can be made that the hifonics will put out less than my guesstimates from above (lets say it only puts out 1k watts, and we both know THATS a stretch)

You CANT tell by ear the difference of only 2 or 300 watts, you just cant.

So for a budget I'd say hifonics, for a better all around amp orion, watt for watt, the 1605d will be just as powerful @ 12 volts as the orion...

I cant debate the sounds better issue cause my friends 1200 didnt sound any better or worse than mine did and there were BOTH very loud. (he drove a bramha 15 and I drove an avalanche 18, both boxes ported low)

That does not mean it is not true //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Don't mean to come off rude, just wanted to make sure it was clear the Orion was a better amp. I got the impression you thought they were of equal quality.

I picked up my orion for $300 the Hifonics is around $250. IMO the extra $50 outways the "budget" part of the Hifonics.

But I do agree with Hifonics being a good budget amp for some users. Just not me:)

No, you did'nt come off as rude as all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

And I do agree it's a better amp because it will do rated power @ 13.8 versus 14.4 volts.

Infact I"m going to buy eventually an orion 2500d. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif reason being it puts out more power than any brutus line can its ability to be run @ ohm loads lower than 1 ohm, has gain matching features (which I love cause I can put 2 on each v/c and set the gains for only one amp and not both )

So I think we agree, just when I bought this amp (hifonics) money was tight. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif My amp is a nice amp and puts out close to rated power, but when/if you want big power I would'nt touch hifonics.

budget = hifonics, big power, performance, features, = ORION //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Phsycoacoustics...

The new Hifoncs amps have had some changes made to the boards...they should produce the power they say they will with the new models...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yup and besides that most people are comparing entry level hifonics with standard orion (or insert amp brand here) when in fact if u were to be compairing equal lines you would need to be talking about the xx line and not the brutus or zues lines.

How about them nasty THD lvls???

How about them nasty THD lvls???

You are probably speaking of Sergey's test. I do believe he was attempting to get max output from the amp...any amp can be made to put out high levels of distortion...

I'm not defending the Brutus line from last year, they were overrated amps that didn't put out the power they claimed. But from what I've heard (not from Hifonics, but regular consumers and competitors) about this years models, is that they will do what they say. I've also seen the insides of the new models, and there have been some modifications made.

Sounds promising:)

Thanks Snova.
