ok, im really confused about this amp, i did a search, and it seems like people either love it or completely hate it. i also see that lot of people say it doesnt put out the power that it says it does, then other people say that it does. does anyone that actually owns the amp know how it performs? or how good it would be with 2 2002 kicker l7's? i'd be running it in 1 ohm, i have a directed 1100 D right now, and its slowly dying, i'd like something with a little more power than that puts out.

i made a thread of the bx1500d vs bx1505d...looks like the 1505 does closer to rated power and is the 2005 version. might as well go for that and somehow its cheaper than the 1500d at http://www.onlinecarstereo.com

I ran that combo before (subs and amp). It sounded really good and hit hard. It definitely put out some power. On a side note, I find it really funny that people like to say that particular amp doesnt put out rated power and such. That KB birthsheet has been flying around for a while for the most part to discredit the products claims of power. Hifonics rates those amps 1500w at 14v. That sheet shows 1360w @ 14v. Not even the goldenest of ears will hear a difference in terms of power between the two. On the mic, maybe a tenth of a point.

well said! soemtimes before i test i listing to my system burp and i think its louder and turns out vice versa lol dont ever trust you ears and plus 1000 watts to 1500 aint a really big difference i bet you wont notice it.

Yeah, the exaggeration on a lot of forums when comparing products is rediculous. I understand people favoring products or vice versa, but lets be realistic and not confuse those that dont have much experience and are seeking advice.

But notice that that power level is @ 10% THD. Not only could that be an audible amount of distortion, but most any other amp is rated at 1% THD. So you can knock a fair amount of power off of that figure on the birthsheet to arrive at the standard 1% THD level.

I also seem to remember that amp was repaired
And? If repaired properly, it should perform 100% as new.

and the ONLY one to seem to circulate.
So then find someone else with a BX1500D willing to send in their amp for a certified bench test //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Pepsifiend, how do you know youre directed is "slowly dying"? Sounds like there might be other issues with your setup.

I owned the Brutus 1500, I had a PG Tantrum 1200.1 that I used the Brutus to replace. Then, I replaced the Brutus with an ED 9.1.

No difference in sound among the three to my ears.

My take on the Brutus is that its good power for the price. Of course, there are better amps out there, but for the price of the Brutus, its hard to beat.

Thats one issue, being properly repaired. Not knocking KB, but I've read my share of stories regarding amps they've repaired. I dont think I can find anyone to send theirs in because I'm sure they're too busy enjoying the amp to want to take it out for a test. Thats why even after all the bashing about it, its still one of the most asked about amps.

I would venture to say that's more price related than anything //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

True, that may be part of the reason. Who wants to spend more money than they have to, but the fact remains its still a nice amp and over exaggeration about its power isnt right.
