Hifonics 1206D or 1606D At 2-Ohms For Powering 1 12" Alpine Type-R?

Haha, hmm. Not sure what that is or any of that means. Are you saying the Hifonics newer models **** or something? What about the 1206D, would that be better, at 900 RMS and it has lower amp wattage, so someone said.

no one knows technically what it is or how it works either, but it raises your impedance so your amp wont be seeing 2 ohms, could see anywhere from 3-8 ohms depending on rise, usually about 3-4. so your sub wont be getting 1100 rms.

the hifonics bxi series are very solid FOR THE PRICE, but there is a lot better. if i were you, i'd give it a bxi1206d at 1 ohm.

But I dont understand. I found a deal for the 1606D the exact same price as the 1206D, maybe lower. And the obviously the 1606D has more power so why not that?

no...im just saying you could spend less for the 1206 and run it at 1 ohm and be getting just the right amount after all factors.

Well, I mentioned that I found a deal that has the 1606D at the same price, if not, less than the 1206D online somewhere...so is the 1606D a better steal in this case?

And the question hands down is, should I get the 1606D in general?

they are both close to the same amp im sure....quality for the price.

if you can get either for the same price then of course go with the 1606.

Alright cool. The Hifonics BXi-1606D amplifier then it is. I know its overrated, but if its definitely over 600 RMS in loudness, then I will be happy.

Where are you getting the amp from? I have seen 1605D for 210 shipped..........

I found the 1606D the same price as the 1206D on ebay brand new. I think its around 230-240.

It takes power to make power. With the 1606 d you will get probably 1000ish at 2 ohms with the 1206d u'll be lucky to get 5-600. 80 amps *14 volts=1120 watts times by .707= right around 800 watts rms at 1ohm in a perfect world.

As for the 1606D, if its above 800+ watts, Ill be happy. My head unit outputs 2.0 volts from the preamp things or something. Does anyone know if my system will be ok like that on a 90 amp alternator, 2volts hu output, 4 gauge wire, etc?

Alright, I have to bump my own thread because Im still at a lost of what to get. I thought I was going to set with a 1606D, but all this talk about it having more power than the 1206D has me scared that my alternator will dim my lights badly..since it is at 90 amps, and I am using the stock battery, and havent done the Big-3 wiring yet. Whats everyones take on the alternator amp size? And I've decided to take your guys (CarAudio enthusiasts) tips and make my own custom box instead of a 'prefab' one, so it should be at 2.5cu.ft tuned at 32 hertz (everyone agrees that that is supposedly the best box size).

So tips/ideas?

PS EDIT: If I got the 1206D, how much RMS watts would 2 Type-R's get each on that mono amplifier? How much on the 1606D? Would it be worse on my alternator with 2 Type-R's on either 1206D or the 1606D? Thanks.
