HiFi Sound Connection custom enclosure?

HiFi Sound Connection offers a custom enclosure for my truck (2002 Chevrolet Ext. Cab). It says the top depth is 13.5" and the box depth is 13.75" but it says the mounting depth is only 5.75"........my JL 10w3v3's have a 5.93" mounting depth. Does this mean that enclosure won't work or am i reading the box's specs wrong? I already have 2 enclosures made from some 3/4" MDF but they don't fit very well. (I built the boxes to JL audio specs but i have to lift the bottom portion of my rear bench seat for the boxes to fit). The enclosures i built were going to be used as an outfire setup (out towards the back of the front seats). I just want to know if HiFi's box would b a better choice or not.

Yes that mean the subs won't fit the way the box is currently built.

You can always cut out a hole in the back (which should give you at least 5/8" more depth) and cover it back up with some 1/4" hardboard or something (making sure to seal it well from the inside).

That's not really a good idea.

No the subs won't fit. Since it's a downfiring design you need to look at the height not the depth. Although it still says 9 5/8" height you need to figure some of the height is clearance for the sub and sub movement for the downfiring setup.

The only thing you could do to make the sub fit would be to add a spacer ring to the outside of the box where you mount the sub, this will give you an equal ammout of additional mounting depth. Just make sure you still have enough clearance to downfire the subs.

I think i found an enclosure that will work. I found it on eBay last night. It's an upfire box though. It's got an extra piece on the box itself that sits on top of the sub to keep it from hittin' the seat. I think it'll work.

From experience upfiring subs sound like crap...the seat muffles to much of the sound

Here's the dimensions I have for under the rear seat of a silverado:

That's all there is and there ain't any more room than that unless you willing to raise the seats.

Now, if you go with not raising the seats at all, your limited as to what will fit and the type of enclosure you want ( sealed or ported ).

Ideally, best method is down firing, but the drawback is giving up interior depth to for sub depth for clearance off the floor.

Up firing has it's drawbacks for obvious reasons, but recessing the subwoofer below the top gets rid of the seat bottom laying on top of the subs, but if no one is seating in the back, leave the seat up.

I have a 07 ext cab chevy. I cannot built boxes for shit. I bought a dual 10'' downfire off of http://www.subthump.com It is a sealed downfire design. I have kicker cvt's and I like it alot. It doesnt get crazy loud. But it sounds pretty good. Everything I have ever heard recommends the downfire design in the ext cab trucks. I made a thread about my install. Its in the general section.
