hi from the ocean.

Hey Req, quick question...

I'm DEP into the marines as Aircraft Maintenance, sounds pretty similar to what your MOS is. Ya'll have many, or any marine techs on board, or even pilots? Ship duty would be baller as hell and told it was possible...

Generally not on Aircraft carriers. There are Marine Detachments on the Amphib Ships. (LHD's and such). These dont have carrier aircraft, mainly helos but can render service to Harriers. Since the Harrier is a USMC aircraft, i would imagine they have some techs onboard attatched with the Marine detatchment.

no marines onboard the carrier - thats for certain. but the LHD amphib ships got detachments of them for the hovercrafts and heilos and harriers. if you are going into the USMC now - you might get to work on the f-35 joint strike fighter vertical take off jet. that would be pretty bad ***. those things are like 100 times better than the superhornet. but the base i am on there is a C school for marines to learn about the fa-18a\b\c\d\e\f depending on what command you are going to head to.

so if you end up in nas oceana virginia beach you should hit me up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif\

did they tell you specifically WHAT aircraft maintenance you will be doing? like engine mechanic, airframe repair, avionics, ordinance?

i can prolly awnser lots of questions you have.

6200 is my listen enlisted MOS until I finish A-School; basic fixed wing aircraft mechanic. Depending on my stature out of A-School, I'll either get my choice of aircraft, or pick 3 and they choose for me...and you know i'll push to get the F35. That thing is just plain sick...

that does not even make any sense.

A school is to give you a rating. meaning you go to school to learn what you are going to be doing, hence - when you go to A school - its for Jet A and system B - for example - FA-18 hornet and your job will be Airframe Mechanic, or SH-60 heilo and Engine Mechanic

you dont go to A school first and then pick your MOS when you get done. basically what can happen, is from what im seeing on google, is they will find a rate under "aircraft maintenance" that is open and stick you in there - weather it be a parachute rigger\repair guy (in the navy the rate is PR), or an "AD" aka aviation machinist mate.

i dont think you will get any sort of choice of what you want to work on. they will put you where they need you, not vice versa. i dont mean to spoil your dreams, but this is how the military is. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

When i went to FC "A" School its a broad FC rate school with servos, electronics, radars, etc. In "A" school we picked orders for our "C" School to get our NEC (MOS) for what weapon system/data system we wanted to work on. Granted, we could only pick from what was available at the time.

Different rates have different schools.....some are different than others.

FC is different. but you WERE scheduled to go to FC a school - which was a very specific NEC\MOS. its not like saying "ships company electronics" you know what i mean? one of the reasons you got to pick your weapons system of choice is prolly because there were enough openings at that time. im sure if they needed sea sparrow operators you would have been put there without choice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

eh, some people have different expierences, but not giving you any idea what your a school is for and you picking your c school for aviation sounds shady to me. just do NOT be an undesignated marine. thats all i can tell you.

Our a school is a basic operation and principles of electronics. You cant just go to a ship and start ripping part stuff with basic FC knowledge. FC is a 0000 NEC, the particular system we specialize in is our NEC/MOS. We got to pick orders based on what was needed at the time. Our "C" school taught us about our system we specialize in.

Maybe i misunderstood you, but FC A school did not give us an NEC.
