Hello All,

Edited: 2012-01-02 1030- don't bother reading this post. The helpful folks here have already helped me move beyond these newbie questions. I am now a newbie with enough info be be dangerous!

I've joined to get help with building a decent, but not terribly expensive system in a 2002 Toyota Highlander SUV.

I'm selling my Chevy S-10 with 12 year old stuff: 4 channels of Planet Audio speakers in the front, 10" Image Dynamics woofer rear, and a Clarion 5ch 35w x 4 - 100w amp, w/ Clarion head unit.

I'm debating whether to keep the old Clarion 5-ch amp and 10" Image Dynamics woofer or buy new.

So far in the new setup in the "new to me" Toyota Highlander:

I'm very happy with the front door speaker upgrade to Hertz ESK-165L ($300),

and I'm ok with my current Infinity Kappa 3-way's in the rear doors ($80), although I'm glad I didn't pay more for them.

I haven't replaced the head unit yet, and I haven't installed amps yet.

The Hertz ESK-165L's are actually very impressive even running on the stock head unit.

The Infinity Kappa 3-way's are probably very starved for power, and I hope they shape up alot when I get the amps installed, because they are dissappointing at this time.

I look forward to your help and advice.

the kappa's are 3 way ,and thats why they are lacking.get rid of the 5 channel too.sub is ok as most id subs are.but you need to figure out how nuch power you wanna run and are you looking for advice or equipment, and last but not least ,you want sq, sql, or just bass

Thanks mylows10

I am looking for advice on good "bang for the buck" stuff, with good, accurate, natural sound>

4ch front amp (35w - 75w per channel realm),

and

mono or 2ch rear amp (100w - 300w)

and

natural sounding rear sub and box (10-12 inch / single, or perhaps double if necessary)

I'll go ahead and part with the old 5ch amp. Thanks

I'm comparing Sub's now. I don't want or need killer bass. I'm more interested in full, natural, accurate sound.

Your comment, sq. If that means sound quality, yes. I'm after that.

sql? I'm not sure what the L means. If sql means sound quality loud... yep, but not killer / competition loud.

I was pretty happy with 35 x 4 RMS front in a X-cab pickup, but I am looking hard at 70 x 4 RMS because I'm in an SUV now, Boston Acoustics GTA-704 4-channel car amplifier — 70 watts RMS x 4, $173

and, 300 watts into 4 ohms at the rear.

well i have an amp that will give you 65+ watts rms x 4 used for sale for 120 shipped.as for an amp for the subs ,i have a powerbass asa 600.1 also for sale for 150 shipped ,pretty new amp too..now if you want new then what i need to know is ,do you want smaller sized amps or mini amps or will regular sized ones be fine

Hello duanebro

What model is the Clarion HU?
If you decide to sell the Clarion amp, how much were you thinking?
It looks like I'll have to sell the Clarion stuff with the vehicle, if the buyer comes through with the money by Tuesday. I'll get back with you if the deal falls through.

The HU is RAX-4500 I think

I'd have to look up the Amp, year 1999, 35x4 & 100 to sub.
