ok i have a few questions

1. My head unit only has one set of rca plugs in the back, but i want to amp my highs and my subs. Is there anything i could buy that would be cheaper than a new head unit?

2. I plan on putting some bigger subs and amps in my van. i am thinking like a amp that puts out 400 watts on 2 channels and one that will put out about 100 watts on 4 channels. what will this do to my power will i have to upgrade my alt.

please any help is wanted

the easiest way is to split your rca's with a pair of Y-adapters and then adjust the crossover on your amps accordingly. then upgrading your alternator probably wont be necessary.

Go to Best buy or CC they have this thing but you tie it into speaker wires on Radio and it turns them into Rca's
that isnt what he needs but for future reference, that is a line level output converter (LOC). it is commonly used for integrating an amp with a factory system.

if one amp has an output you could just plug rca wires from one amp the other without buying the y-connector. but thats IF one of the amps has an input and output
