If there is air leaking between the sub gasket and mounting baffle does it make noise? Everytime a note hits, it sounds like if u were standing behind the trunk of a car and heard the license plate rattling.

Is that cuz of the air leaking?

Could be. Push on the sub and put your hand around the ring and see if you can fel air coming out. If you are worried then you can get some foam weather stripping and stick that to the ring and re mount it into the box (also make sure it is evenly spaced in all directions...)

sounds to me more like a mechanical sound rather than a air leak.

mine had an air leak around there and it sounded like air ecscaping not rattling i pulled the sub out and put some silicone around it that fixed it.. but that was a sealed box

it was the leak making the noise. I siliconed it up and now it sounds proper.

thats why i never use the gasket
