Help!

I have a 05 chevy colorado and plan on doing in my mind a high wattage system. My question is whats the limits to 120 amp alt ? Most likely im going to have to upgrade it but at this moment in time i dont have the money(but plan to asap !) I dont want to damage my car and its electrical system...... so thats why im wondering whats my limit . Next question is should i wait entirely to install my sub and what ever amp i pick till after the alt upgrade or is there any thing i can do for the mean time? Now the important facts i plan on buying a amp that will do around 4000w , my sub is a treo csx 15" . thanks for any help you guys can give

the reserve capacity on your alternator is roughly 60 amps. (less at night because of your lights being on)

It is perfecly possible to run an admirable sub amp off your current setup. you can pull bout 500 watts without a problem. if you want to get a multi amp for your speakers, you can upgrade your alternator then.

my only suggestion is if you're planning a multi amp, include provisions in your system for it (i.e. 4awg power wire and dist blocks to keep you from running 2 seperate wires through you firewall.)

You will never pull 4,000 watts out of a 120A alternator.

****...didnt' see that 4000 W amp.

if you're going to try and use that amp now, i don't think you'd be able to feed it even if you kept your gains super low....i'd wait and get the alternator.

you''ll need somthing in the 350-400 amp range and your power wire is going to be freakign huge.
