Help with Type X

Bout to build a box for my buddies type X. trying to score as high as we can in a comp next weekend. I was thinkin around 40hz in maybe 2-2.2 cubes. Hows this sound? how much port area would be good for this sub?

yea type x wont fair to well on SPL but you have the right idea on a box dont expect more than about a 130-140 with one type x it will sound amazing though

guys I realize this. were just doing it for fun to see how high we can get an X to score. we got a 131.8 30 sec average last weekend in a prefab box. off about 650 rms.

for next weekend we're building him a difference box and running it off about 900 rms.

so what are some good box specs for this even though we know its not an SPL sub?

2.2 tuned to 40 with like 32-40 inches of port area should get you pretty loud on 900 watts.

If you have the time to throw a sealed subwoofer in his car and meter it or listen with ear to find loudest frequency that the car peaks at and then tune 5-10 Hz below that frequency you might make up a half point or more.

last weekend we ran a sweep with his prefab and it peaked at 50 hz. thats why I figured 40 hz would be good tuning.

Maybe even a lil over 40 make sure you are right there at least.

Are you playing tones or music for the comp?

not sure. tones if they allow it, otherwise some music. today we built a box in about 2.25 cubes tuned to about 40hz and its killing the lows a lot more than the prefab ever did. I don't think its peaking as high as it was before.

you can keep making the port shorter untill it doesn't get any louder and then go back to the loudest port length, I guess it is easier to do with external Aeros.

Thanks for the tracks man. Yeah I dont think the box is coming back out of his trunk unless we cut it out. It was SOOO tight. Barely fit. Its got 35 inches of port area. I'll try to get pics of it later. Its not peaking as high as I'd like it to but it murders the lows now. Sound better even if it doesn't score better on the TL
