im wanting to replace my factory speakers for my car and i was wondering which speakers do yall like the best, my friend told me to go with infinity but then i seen on here that yall said that a brand named boston acoustics sound better than the infinity is that true, and if so where can u find boston acoustic spekers(website), well this is a list of brands of speakers that i was gonna maybe go with

infinity kappa

polk audio

pioneer

mb quart

boston acoustics

cdt

kenwood

which brand out of those make the best speakers, or is there another brand that makes better than those

thanks

Asking a question like that in these forums will get you about 100 different opinions. And that is for good reason. All speakers sound different in their own way. What makes one person love MB Quart could be the same reason a different person hates them. The best way to choose speakers is to listen to them if possible. Thats why I would advise against buying something online. You don't know what you got til its too late. I would suggest going to your local car audio shop and audition alot of different brands and take a cd of "your" favorite music to listen with. This way you'll know what speakers sound best with "your" kind of music.

But thats just my suggestion. Don't choose based on what your friend tells you. He listens with his ears not yours.

Thats just my opinion.

it also depends on how much you are planning on spending, and if you are going to get an amp to power them... im gonna try out infinity kappa perfect component systems which sounds VERY good and is the top of the line for infinity. they have a msrp of about 530 but ive found them for 258$ and since they have 100watts rms (which NO reciever puts out) i need an amp to go along with it.

i think the MB Quarts have a lower rms and i think that you might not need to have an amp to go with those. but i would suggest going to all different websites and checking prices, ratings, and what would work for you... and once you have found some that you think would work check them out at a store.

MB Quarts gives a wide range of recommended rms input for their components. example(50-100watts rms) In other words, they can sound good from a smaller amplifier and still handle the power from a bigger amplifier. But I would never spend money on a component set and then turn around and run them off of your deck. That would be like buying a $1,000 pair of home speakers and powering them with a boom box. No set of components should ever be run with a deck. Deck power is for running factory speakers before you're ready to upgrade to after market speakers and an amp to power them.

Just my opinion.

i don't believe in the "go to the store and listen for yourself" thing. a showroom has different acoustics than a car's. every car has their own acoustics so there are no speakers that will fit all applications. i have a friend that bought some infinity reference at circuit city because he loved the sound of it when he heard it (people told him to listen to them for himself). then after it was installed in his car, sounded very bad. needless to say, he kept his stock system.

so something you have to go with other people's opinion. it can turn into a good or a bad thing, just depends on how you look at the situation. i myself always like to take chances. bought my CDT audio without listening to it:D

How can you say listening to speakers for yourself can be worse than taking someone's opinion on some? I agree that a showroom has different acoustics than a car does, but you can still get the jist of how a speaker is going to perform. You can tell if a tweeter is going to be too bright or not bright enough or just right. I agree you are taking a chance on buying a set of speakers based on what they sound like in a showroom but I would much rather take that chance over taking someone else's opinion. Because if you have a buddy that is an Infinity fan and if you ask him what he thinks you should get he is going to recommend Infinity over anything else on the market even if that is all he has ever heard.

Try them dammit !! lol

that is a good point... you should definitely try stuff out before you get them..

im not too familiar with component systems, but on the crossover, can you turn the highs down or up, and same with the mid bass? with the crossover can you change prefrences or not?

and with my infinity's, im not going to put the amp in untill i have the money for front ones too (they about 300 per pair including installation) hah, so i dont know how they are going to sound off a deck. but im actually thinking that i have a pretty crappy amp 400/2 (and i would use this to power all 4 so i wouldnt have any fade but it would still work), would a bad amp possibly make the speakers sound bad???

my amp is a Performance Teknique ICBM772 if anyone knows about that, or the quality of it or anything tell me about it.

Others may be able to answer this question better than I can but, for the most part, most component systems have a tweeter level in the crossover.

even if you get a glimpse of what they sound like in the showroom, you're still getting the same risk as if you go by someone else's opinion. lets say you encounted some MB quart speakers off the showroom. now you go listen and dont like how it sounds. the midbass is too weak, tweeter is too bright, then suddenly you pass on because you don' t like it when it could have sounded so much better in a car. i guess everyone has different point of view to this..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

its not like you can go to all of your friends car, and listen to them, or have them tested out in your car... you either like the way they sound, or you dont. then you put them in and they will pretty much sound the same. the only think i would make sure to watch out for is that the highs are not TOO high. that reallys pisses me off and sounds crappy too (hurts the ears). but if you can adjust the tweeters (according to BROCK) then there shouldnt be a problem as long as you like the midbass, and the whole things sounds nice.

they will not pretty much sound the same. road noise, vibration, and all those distorted noise are big factors when hearing speakers. with all those noises, some frequencies are bound to cancel out. there goes your "pretty much the same" theory. if you have a decent headunit, you can turn the treble setting lower and it will reduce the high's or adjust accordingly to what you like. u can't do that much in the store can you.. not to mention they run on different amps. some speakers that sounds really bad might actually be very good. i've seen amps they used to power those speakers and by all means they aren't the strongest. say you listened to some older infinity kapps (green cones) at the store but absolutely hate the sounding of it. and those speakers need a lot of power (for a speaker anyways) to really shine. the polk momo's components have horrible efficiency and require at least 100 watts RMS going to them to sound good.

since they use the same amp to power every speaker, they aren't going to give the polks 100 watts and everything else 100 watts. that would blow a lot of speakers in no time. so they would have to amp them they would just produce something audible. no way they are going to concentrate on "good" speakers and leave the "bad" speakers will little power.

then again..i'm a risk taker. i bought my headunit when the ebay guy had only 18 feedbacks. i took the risk in buying my CDT audio when i have never even heard of it before. i took the chance and bought the Lightning audio amp even though everyone said it sucks (i like it though). must we not forget there is usually a 30 day return policy?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thats the whole point of being on these forums.
