Help with sound Alpine ida 305s

I have the Alpine unit. The car was heavily changed out with several options including a Helix Amp. Lately the stereo doesn't want to come on and speakers alternate on which work and sound can go in and out. My question is if this is the HU or the AMP? Thanks!

i would check the speakers first they may be shorting out. then check the amp then the connections behind the radio

The speakers were replaced a year ago (cdt's) and they are switching which ones work and those that don't. How can I tell if it is the amp I should replace or the head unit? I am guessing unit but I am not so sure.
