ok so i bought an re sr 12" with dual 4s and put it in a 2 cu ft ported box tuned to 36 hertz. i powered it briefly with 80 watts rms to only one of the 2 coils. and it sometimes makes a tapping noise that sounds as if the coil is smacking the back of the magnet. the coil does not rub and the sub can handle 300 rms and i am only giving it 80. i just bought an amp that is 300rms and i was wondering if the noise will only get worse? and what could the noise be? thanks,

you are probably clipping the power source. Either it cannot handle the ohm load or you are just trying to get too much out of it.

Don't just hook up one of the coils.....you "could" damage it

I would leave it off of the 80W or whatever and just wait until you have good clean power to give it

i was told to use that box by alot of people on this forum. if it is the tunning of the box can i simpley put something in the box to decress the cubic footage to achieve the correct voulme?
