Help with my first system

Hello!

I am going to be installing 2 10" kicker Comp subs in an Audi A4 B8. I know those subs might not be the highest quality thing out there, but I got an excellent deal on them. The A4 comes with a factory sub, and the speaker wires that go to the sub can be easily accessible from the trunk. In fact, they are clipped into the sub via a 2 pin connector. The battery for the car is also in the trunk.

So what I am wanting to do is take the signal that's running through the sub speaker wires already, and route it into an Alpine MRP-M500 and have that powering my 2 subs. My only question is if this is a good way to do things. I understand that I'll be running an amplified signal into an amp, but I do have a bass EQ control in the car which controls the volume to the sub (I believe). So by rerouting the speaker wires to go into the alpine sub to power my 2 kickers should work. The only issue is this is my first time ever installing a sound system in a car. I've worked with Home Theater systems in the past, but I am not very familiar with car audio.

I do plan to wire the subs in parallel to keep them at 4 ohms. I'm just wondering if I can get a good signal from the subwoofers speaker wires into the input on the amp.

Thanks for any and all help, and sorry if this is a wall of text.

I agree the high level inputs can be used, but it would be better to snag the signal before the factory sub amp. There may be a factory EQ or subsonic filter in the factory amp.

Car audio amplifiers need a remote turn on signal. You should be able to get one at the factory amp harness. Your first task is finding a pin-out of the factory amp harness. Looking at Audi A4 forums should yield wiring diagrams. Be sure to share any wiring info you find with us!

If the factory amp just powered the sub, I would have no problem just snagging the signal there, but it powers the whole system. And it is a very nice system in the audi, tweeters in the doors, woofers in the lower part of the doors, and a nice sub, but I'm just wanting more base.

I see that Stinger SGN11 is a 2 channel LOC. Would I need 2 channels if im gonna use the sub speaker wires? There are only 2 wires going to the sub, not sure which one is + or - yet...But thank you for suggesting a LOC, I wasn''t sure how to go from speaker wire to RCA, so thank you a lot!

So I now know how to hook up the sub signal to the amp. I'm going to go to a few electronic stores and see if they have the female end of the clip that clips into the sub. If you can't tell, I'm trying to make this install super clean, and super easy to take out.

are they 4 ohm?? or 1ohm?
The speakers are both 4 ohm. I'm going to wire them parallel to keep the amp load at 4 ohm. Unless someone can tell me that that is a stupid idea of course.

Get a LOC with a remote turn-on output. It will save you some hassle. You should be able to just tie the left and right LOC inputs together and run a stereo RCA pair to the amp.
You are a very big help! I didn't even know they made such things. I was looking at my amp today and saw about 20 pins that I would probably have to go through and find the one that turned the amp on, but that LOC with remote turn on will save me a lot of time! Could you possibly suggest a good 2 channel LOC with remote turn on for me? I'm looking, but not really sure what to look for. Will any of them do?

you would have to connect the positive from one coil and the negative from the other coil do the same to the other sub then just connect the remaining positives and negatives to the amp

I'm pretty sure my subs just have 1 positive and negative terminal. I looked at them last night and saw only 2 terminals. Thanks for the diagram though, if they have two terminals I will be sure to follow them.

Any suggestions on a good quality LOC with remote turn on?

The alpine amp is good for 2 ohms, but I was under the impression that I could wire send the positive to both positive terminals using 2 wires and send the negative to both negative terminals, and it would be a 4 ohm load.

That would not be correct.

Running 2 speakers in parallel HALFS the impedance (ohms) - example 2 - 4 ohm speakers = 2 ohm load

Running 2 speakers in series DOUBLES the impedance (ohms) - example 2 - 4 ohm speakers = 8 ohm load
