help with my amp/subs?

Hey, i have a 4 channel lightning audio 1200w amp with 2 12" subs in separate boxes... for some reason, they sound really bad. my old 10" roadmaster subs from walmart sounded better. i had a sony explode 800w with my 10" and they sounded great. then the guy i got the amp from wanted to trade so he could have an "all sony" system so i figured it was a good deal and i was trading up. but with the new amp it didn't sound as good. and the new subs are even worse. wouldn't 12" be better than 10"? does this sound like a problem with the amp? also they make a rattling sound. i have noticed that when i unplug one of the rca plugs the remaining sub sounds great and doesn't rattle. but when i plug the other one back in, it just sounds crappy and they rattle again. i heard the subs when they were in the car from the guy i got them from and they sounded great. would bad wires cause this problem? sorry if i am not specific enough, this is my first time posting so ask any questions if you need.

Thanks so much.

Did you accidentally get the polarity reversed on one sub.

running both subs with one out of phase with the other will cause what you describe.

you are talking about postive/negative (red/black) when you say polarity, right?

i have checked that several times over. i can't find any mistakes. the only thing i can think of it that i am wiring it wrong. the amp is has 4 channels...LR LF RR RF. i just hooked one sub to RR and one to LR and put the rca to LR and RR. is there a problem with that wiring? also, could the amp be giving too much/too little power?

yes, i just have the subs on the amp. i didn't know if there was a different way to hook them up since it is 4 channel instead of 2.

i'm sorry but i don't know if they are 2 or 4 ohm. is that a necessary thing to know?

most definatly. that would be a great thing to know, especially when it comes to wiring them correctly

You're running them in stereo off of only one set of channels, you want to bridge channel A for one sub and then bridge channel B for the other.

Use a splitter on the RCA cords to get signal to both Channel A and B.

Bolt 75x4 @ 4ohms

100x4 @ 2ohms

200x2 @ 4ohms - 1200 Watts Max Power

Variable x-over from 40-400Hz

+12db Juice Boost Bass EQ

Pass thru ouputs

Chrome cover

any suggestions on what to do about the ohms? i bought them used from a guy i know. i suppose i could ask him. but he is really hard to get a hold of. that is also why i can't ask him any questions

i know they are concept

take them out of the box and look, sometimes it's written on there or get a DMM and read out the coil (s)

Low end Concept subs are all 4 ohms unless they have Dual voice coils then they have 2 4ohm coils.

Wait... how old are the subs and what color is the cone?.

The newer lower end models have a silver cone and a 6ohm voice coil and the low end black cone have dual 4ohm coils.

so if i go about bridging them then that would give them more power? would that solve the rattling problem? am i only getting half the power since i'm only using 2 of the 4 channels?

might solve your problem, however if one sub is blown then that could be the rattleing or a crappy box with air leaks.
