Help with mounting subs inverted

I'm wanting to mount my subs inverted because the faces are pretty beat up but the backs are still clean. I read that when doing this you need to reverse the polarity so the cone moves out and not in. I have a sub control on my h/u that turns the sub OFF/NRM/REV. I also read somewhere that the REV function will reverse the signal at the h/u so I wouldn't need to wire the subs backwards. Will the REV function fix this or do I still need to wire the subs in reverse?

the phase doesnt matter unless there are other subs besides these. what you do have to worry about is airspace. by doing this you basically just made your box 0.05 to 0.2 cubic feet larger per sub. this will change slightly the way the sub performs could be for the better , could be for the worse. just try it and see what it sounds like. the whole wiring thing is not an issue. as long as you are flipping all of your subs reverse leave the wiring alone.

a trick to mounting them correctly is to place them in the box normally and trace around the edge with a pencil so when you flip it you can line it back up. if you dont you might align it a little off causing the surround to contact the box on excursion misaligning the coil. the only time you have to reverse polarity is if one sub is normal the other reversed so they stay in sync

yes, you want to reverse the phase on the subs with inverted mounting. you want them in-phase relative to the midbass/speakers.

note that it's not "out" or "in" since they move back and forth anyway. but it's phase you are concerned about - especially around the crossover point.
