1) What is your budget?
a max of $1200
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
a. Ultraportable; 12" screen (no 8 or 9 inch screens)
b. Thin and Light; 13.1" preferably one of these 2

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
not really. it's only what i read as far as reviews go. i was really eyeing the lenovo thinkpad x200 and this HP i saw at best buy a little while ago, but people are kinda dissin HP, so IDK
5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
web surfing, DL'ing music and movies, watchin a dvd occasionally, thats it!!
6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
yes, i'll be taking it different places
7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
no games
8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
at least 3.5 hours
9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
not at all
10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
from what i been reading windows XP > vista, so XP
Screen Specifics
Note - When this FAQ was started many years ago, the split between standard screen notebooks and widescreen notebooks was about 50-50. In the meantime, widescreen notebooks have become the new standard. If you're looking for a standard screen notebook, some people are, you may wish to mention it. There are a few standard screens still being sold, but they're going the way of the Dodo bird.
11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
it doesn't matter, but if i had to pick, i would pick either E or F
12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
either one is fine. its whatever screen i can see off-axis best. right now i have an acer travelmate 4000 but i have to sit right in front of it to get a clear pic of the screen

i need at least 100GB

an optical drive would be nice cdrw/dvd-rom or a dvd burner. no blu-ray. but if the lappy doesn't come with an optical drive, maybe i can buy a usb powered one
