ok guys.. all BS aside.. can a 15" L7 REALLY handle 1200 watts every day?

heres the dilemma. have a bx1205d.. 1200 @ 1 ohm, 900 @ 2 ohms. now if i put it in a 4.5 cube box in the real low 30s.. can i put 1200 on it every day? the subs rated at 1000, but ill feel like im wasting 300 watts if i keep it at 2 ohms.. and if i can put 1200 on it without much risk of melting the coils then id like to. i want all the SPL i can get.

is polecat still around? has anybody had experience with this sub?

I dont see a problem with it. I know a few people who ran 1500 watts to them daily without a problem. Lucky? Maybe.

Just keep the gain down to avoid clipping.

actually i think im stickin with it.. besides the 1000d gives about 900 wrms and i have that @ 2 ohms.. thanks for the offer though man..

and also... hows the 15sx? ive been lookign into that sub a lot anyone with experience fe3el free

how do you figure you can wire a single sub to 4 or 2 ohms as you please?
if your sub is DVC 4 ohms, you can wire it to 2 or 8 ohms.

if your sub is DVC 2 ohms, you can wire it to 1 or 4 ohms.

im not a noob //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

know basics of wiring.. i dont have the sub yet. so i could choose a dual 2 for 1200 wrms or a dual 4 for 900.. thats why i was asking cause i wanted to know which would be better based on power. looks like dual 2 is the one. but i wont have the moeny for a month so who knows what might change.

id liek to see ascendants new spl/sql sub though too..

Do you get a steady 14.4 volts? Thats the only way youll see 1200 out of that amp, and maybe not even then. Youll be fine, set the gains right, and enjoy.

well from my understanding the hifonics overrating problem was corrected for the most part with the new line.. i havent seen any bench results or anything but im hoping that i can get my 1200 watts..

also, ive heard the bx1205d (one i have) is just a repackaged/reworked bx1500d.. which used to show results of 1300 or just under. so who knows maybe hifonics is changed and is putting out (dare i say..) even MORE than its rated at (haha may have just opened up some hifonics flaming)

SX is better than an L7 to me, the sq of SX is alot better than the L7 i heard, and SX was a louder off my 1200 watts than his of 1000, i would choose an SX over an L7 any day
Not what he was asking...!

Who would buy a SX over an L7 though HAHAHA //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I'm just messin' they are both very great subs and with the proper enclosure it'll be great

My opinion Go for the 2 ohm and send it the 1200watts daily...It'll be fine and it will handle the power like a beast...Very tough subs and are great, keep your gains down and you'll be A-Okay!

Hey, good deal if they have indeed stepped up the power. You should get it benched, let us all know the deal.

do you think a local shop would bench it for me for free? cause i was already considering this.. id liek to know how much power im getting.. but didnt knwo if a local shop would have the equipment

Not really sure. Youd have to call them to find out if they have the equipment, and if they will charge you to test it.

If your putting those into a huge ported box I wouldnt give them 1200 daily. Put it in like 3ft. cube, or put them in a sealed box if you want 1200. I have 2 12's and they are hitting Xmax with 900-1000 each daily in 3.5 cube box....when i crank it i can hear them start to distort.

You can still hook up your amp, just turn the gains down and adjust it from there to a "safe point".
