Help with kicker component speaker and tweeter install

Hi guys I am new to car audio and car install. I have installed my new headunit and front speakers. I have the kicker component speakers wired and mounted using the existing wiring. I am at a loss for if I have to install the crossover box? I dont know what it does or if I need it? The speakers work fine right now, but I do not want to ruin my new speakers. Do I need to install the crossover box to hook up the tweeters that came with the speakers? It wont let me include a link so the speakers that I am refering to are: Kicker - DS 6-1/2" 2-Way Component Speakers with Polypropylene Cones

model number is: 07DS6002

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Shane

yes you need the crossover, if you are running the tweeters with out crossovers and letting them play on full pass then your going to kill them, and your mids are trying to play too high, so run the pos and ned form your source (hu or amp) to the input on the crossover, and then hook up the tweeter and mid to the crossover where labeled

To elaborate a little on what Phoenix says, your crossovers are quite important. What they do is make sure that the right driver, be it tweeter or mid bass receives the correct frequencies. With most component speakers, the individual drivers are designed specifically for a set of frequencies and allowing frequencies not in their specified range to get into the speakers, especially tweeters, it can damage them. If your vehicle already had tweeters and component midbass and you just replaced them, you probably wont see the effects immediately, but I would highly suggest rewiring using the crossover...the booklet that came with the speakers should give details on how to do this if you are unsure.

Thanks CivicGti, That is what I did I pretty much just replaced what I had stock in my car, and I was unsure of what the crossover box was actually for. Well I guess it is time to rip out the interior panels again and wire these up. Thanks guys I appreciate the help!
