Help with Kenwwod headunit... I want to use mute wire...

I just installed a Kenwood KDC-MP245 headunit in my car, and everything is fine, except it does not have a mute or attenuate button... My old unit did, and I used it frequently, at drive ups, when talking to passengers, ect.

I see the wiring harness has a mute wire that is designed to be used with car phone systems... could I wire up a switch to use that feature? Does it need a special signal, or ground, or +12v?

(Yes, the remote has ATT, but it ***** searching for the remote everytime, and it does not resume at the same volume.)
