Help with internet

I have a router in my brother's room that is hardwired to his desktop. The internet in his room is fast, but in my room, it is really slow on my laptop. Also, on my xbox 360, i can see the network with full bars, but can never connect to live. On my laptop, i see full bars too, but like i said, it's really really slow. Any help?

low bandwidth?

If alot is running or being downloaded its pretty obvious why.. I used to have that problem until i went from 1.5MB - 10 mb

Wireless is usually slower than direct anyways

Do you have the Linksys WRT160Nv2? Cuz I do, and it sucks balls. For your Xbox live you probably need to open some ports, and you probably need to change some of your firewall settings.

If you DO have the WRT 160Nv2, take it back and get something else...the router sucks big bawls

i have the 160n also , but is hardwired to my Directv, and 360 , wireless to PC, ps3 and printer.. Iphone too .. Never had to open ports for anything .. except torrents

Do you have the v1 or v2? I have the v2 and cannot get xbox LIVE to work right. Even was talking to linksys tech support forever trying to get it to work. It was fine on the WRT54G, until that baby broke.

Now everything is wired, except the PS3 and laptop...which has ZERO problems, and I don't get any lag online at all either. Yay for 20mb connection.

The only problems that really piss me off, is the sometimes the router has to be reset due to DNS errors...some other probs too with torrents sometimes. Definitely not my favorite router. Wish some custom firmware would come out for the v2

yea i have the V2, i get a dns error at times too , and just randomly needs a reset sometime, but other than that is descent.. i do miss my 54gs tho

The only thing on it is the wired desktop and the wireless laptop. I have the belkin n150 or something like that. The weird thing is that on the iphone the wifi is fast. How do you open ports and stuff? I think imma return it and get a linksys router again. I had the linksys g router for years and it never and any problems until i switched to this. Now i cant even play mw2.
