Top section of the T:

v(1) = l*w*h

v(1) = 20" * 48" * 9"

v(1) = 8640"^3

Bottom section of the T:

v(2) = l*w*h

v(2) = 20" * 36" * 6.5"

v(2) = 4680"^3

Total volume

v(t) = v(1) + v(2)

v(t) = 13320"^3

v(t) = 7.71ft^3

mazdakid, on the second line of your formula, the 5.75 should just be 5.

Still, those are all gross. The volume of the wood is (roughly):

Top(2 layers)+Bottom+2sides+Front+Back

(48x18.5x1.5)+(48x18.5x.75)+2x(13.25x18.5x.75)+2x(((48x9)+(36x6.5))x.75)

1332+666+368+999 Weird how many variations of 666 there are?

[bTW, I skipped separating the "t'd" sides, but it comes out very close(+/- .012ft^3)without the added work]

=1.9ft^3

7.7 gross minus 1.9 for wood leaves about 5.8ft^3

5.8 minus 0.4 for sub leaves about 5.4ft^3 before ports and bracing.

why should the 5.75 be 5"? theres only one side of wood there?
