Ok, so I bought an amp from akkord, its a arc audio 4150xxk, it "looked" alright when i got it but I didnt have time to install it(It had a messed up mounting tab, he didnt know anything about it of course)anyways, I installed it last week and when Im driving, one of the channels cuts out, then in a few seconds(sometimes minutes) it comes back on. If I turn the amp off and then back on it still may not play. Im wondering if I got a bad amp? right now its only running a pair of cerwin vega 5x7 heds in my back deck, Im waiting on some more stuff to install the front speakers in the doors. I have switched the channels so the right plays through the left and vice versa and it follows that channel, so I know it isnt the speakers(they may not be too great but until I install the rainbows theyre all Ive got).

So ideas anyone? Im running 8 gauge to it now, I havent bought the 4 gauge yet and Im not sure if I need to, its only running the 4 speakers, each speaker is running at 4 ohms, so nothing huge there, but I checked it over today and I cant figure it out. I made sure I have the speaker wire wrapped around the screw, I dont have any spade terminals yet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif but Im trying to figure this out before I have to send it to Arc to get fixed, so Thanks In Advanced for any help------Dinty

Sounds like you bought a used, defective amp. I'd request the seller to go into the repair fees quite honestly, or if he was the orig authorized owner to have it warrantied.

You should be running 4ga, but i cant see that being the source of the problem.

yea I think so too, if read this the past post of the thread on page 3, I asked him to return my PM I sent him, he never returned it, and he hasnt been active on the boards for jus about 4 months, I will try to send him a PM again and hopefully he responds. I know he isnt the original owner, he bought it from eatank and I have spoken with him about it and he said (as is all of his equipment unless otherwise stated in post) it was BNIB when he shipped it, so this guy must of done something to it, is there a way to test if its bad and if so what do I test? Thanks for the reply---Dinty

That guy sounds M.I.A.

Honestly I'd ship it to Arc, put your worries aside. Their customer service is great and you should have a basically new performing 4150 when its all said and done, that should last many, many years trouble free.

My nearly 4yr old daily driver 4150 is in my brothers now car running his whole system (Passive comps & 2 x12's) getting totally abused, with no complaints.

When you say "follows that channel" you are implying that it isnt on just one channel? The problem is shifting on the amp? If so, then it would be a speaker problem.

well, what i mean is, if i have the right and left speaker cable coming out of the amp and i remove both wires, and i place the right wire into the spot where the left wire previously was and put the left wire where the right wire was, the cutting out follows that channel, either speaker it doesnt matter whether it is pushing the right or left speaker, hopefully thats alittle clearer now, its kind of difficult to describe, at first I thought it was the speakers but I was trying different things out last night and it seems to be the amp unfortunatly, i have my new speakers I may just install and see if the problem continues, maybe 6spcoupe is correct and im doing something wrong, eh i wont know til i try it, thanks for the replies guys---Dinty

hey, its ok, i was replying to 6spdcoupe's response, ok ill try that, how do i do that? i have yet to do that, im also not sure if the speakers are 2 or 4 ohm, theyve been in there so long i dont remember, but the rainbow 5x7's and arc audio 5 1/4's all run at 4 ohms, so how do i wire them? i read the manual for the amp but it doesnt tell me how to wire them for 4 ohms, only 2 ohm unless i missed something, when I was going to install the speakers I was going to have a friend of mine help me set the amp correctly, he used to own a car audio store around here for about 8 years, anyways lemme know how to do that and if i get back from the airport soon enough ill try it tonite, im going down to philly yyiippeee haha, thanks for the help---Dinty

So the same channel on the amp cuts out regardless of which driver is on it? Have you tried any other set of drivers? How bout swapping RCAs? Also have you tried channels 3&4 with the same setup? (assuming your currently utilizing 1&2) Do you have a multi meter?

hey, no i havent tried another set of drivers, i havent had the chance but I will tomorrow, I only have my rainbows though, wait i think i have another older pair of cerwin vega 6x9's from my competition van that i took out this season, i know theyre not too great either but id rather blow one of them than a nice rainbow speaker, i havent swapped rca's, i can also do that tomorrow and see if it cures the problem, im gettin new ones soon anyways since mine are 24 feet long and i only need 6 feet now, so i have this big ball of wire sitting there, i also have not tried the other 2 channels(im using 3&4 now but i will try 1&2 tomorrow), and yes i have a multi meter, havent learned how to really use it but i know which setting to turn it to to test my voltage, thanks for your help---Dinty

ok sounds good, ill do all the tests tomorrow and ill post what happens, i really hope its just the speakers, although before i hooked up the arc, i had my memphis st amp on them for about 5 years and they never cut out, not even a hiccup, so i dunno, o well what can ya do? if its broke itll get fixed! thanks again---Dinty

6spd = best guy at helping the guys out on forums instead of saying noob or read **** stickys, or search

Keep it up Don

Yeah before reading 6spd's responces it was to me under the impression it was your driver but you cleared it up. Do as 6spd says. I think it sounds like protect mode in my opinion.

hey guys, sorry i havent posted anything about this, we started redoing our kitchen floor last night, and worked on it all day today and probably tomorrow but i should be able to get to this by monday //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Ill let ya know how it goes, thanks again for the help----Dinty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
