Hey, I just recently signed up for this forum so forgive me if I am not that smart //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I did alot of research and search button to choose which subwoofer I would like to upgrade to, and I finally have narrowed my decision.

I will be geting a 15" TC3k.

so here are my questions.. I hope some of you would be able to enlighten me on the things i'm not clear about instead of flaming me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

1) I plan on getting an Orion 2500D, or a Sundown 1500D to power my 15" TC3k (2ohms). You guys probably know the stats.. which one whould i get?

2) would it be smart to "bridge" the orion? I'm scared if I do that the TC might blow. (i'm very inexperienced..if the TC can handle that power than by all means i'll take it..)

3) why is it that when you wire to say, .5 ohms, it actually has MORE power? was that even possible?

more questions are bubbling in my head, but I am having trouble typing them all out. as I hear your guys positive responses (hopefully), I will ask more questions. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Why would you spend a massive amount of money on either of those two amps, and only run it at 2 ohms? That would be quite silly. Also, most amps are not stable below 1 ohm, but yes, you will get more power the lower your final impedance load is. IE:

Orion D2400

1500 @ .5 ohms

1200 @ 1 ohms

800 @ 2 ohms

425 @ 4 ohms

I am using fictitious numbers below one ohm, but I hope you get the message.

I want at least 1k rms being that its going to be a daily driving sub (preferably I would like over 1k++ rms)

I assumed since the TC3k is gonna be 2ohms, the amplifier would have to have it go to 2 ohms. noobie mistake

what recommendations do you guys have beside the Autotek?

^ yea, i looked on TC's website, and they have d2 and q2.

if I were to go the Orion 2500d route...i'd like to be covered by a warrenty. but I would not like to actually pay store prices ($700 or so) or ebay it..

looks like I'm gonna go with the Sundown 1500D.

i'm gonna wire it to 1 ohm...

wil it sound good given a good enclosure?

the sundown will do great. with a strong enough electrical system that amp will do a little over 2kw@.35ohm. here is the numbers with a beefed up elec system

4 ohm nominal = 520 watts @ 88% efficiency (voltage fell from 14.3v, to 14.1v)

2 ohm nominal = 960 watts @ 84% efficiency (voltage fell from 14.3v, to 13.7v)

1 ohm nominal = 1635 watts @ 75% efficiency (voltage fell from 14.3v, to 12.8 volts

.5 ohm nominal = 1890 watts @ 71% efficiency (voltage fell from 14.3v, to 12.8v)

.35 ohm nominal = 2245 watts @ 65% efficiency (voltage fell from 14.3v, to 12.8v)

amplifier did fine @ .35 with tones and music with the added battery

i love mine, got it running my idmax 12@ 2ohm amd it bangs but the sub cant take it no more1

the only problem is that was set to audible distortion, not measured...so if the guys ear wasn't very good then that could be @ 10% thd..Although if they were good then it could be accurate.... Just saying.

1500 is plenty of power to make the TC3K sound good. Sure, it can handle more, but it's not necessary.

If you want warranty then out of your options the 1500D @ 1 ohm is your only real choice as the Orion 2500Ds that you see only generally don't have anything of the sort, except maybe an e-bay sellers warranty.
