i have power to my amp and my head unit, but my head unit doesnt have rca's so i went to walmart today and bought a speaker level converter to convert the speaker wires into rca's. the thing is the directions that come with it are kind of confusing, and i dont know what the black wire on the converter is, im thinking maybe a ground wire? but im not sure, i have a profile california 2400 amp with 2 bridgeable channels on a cheap durabrand head unit, and the converter is a scosche. any information you have for me would help out alot. thanks!

i tried to rig it up today but im just not getting any sound, i put the positive speaker wire from the head unit to the A1 slot on the converter, i put the negative speaker wire in the A2 slost on the converter, from that i have my rca cables, one is white the other is yellow, i have them connected to the amp- white one in white slot and the yellow one in the red slot, the on the converter i have the yellow rca in the right front on the converter and the white in the left front. then from the amp i have the pos. and neg. speaker wires to the pos. an neg. high input on the amp. so now that i have explained please help if you could. im really wantin to figure this out. thanks.

Okay, Im not sure if i get this but Ill try to help here. Do you have the output from the amp connected to any speakers? Are you sure you made your connections properly?

This is how you connect the line level addapter to an amp.

1 - the positive and negative wires from the deck are imputed into the A1 and A2 slots like you said.

2 - the RCA's are then plugged into the converter and then plugged into the Amp RCA inputs.

3 - From there you connect the positive and negative outputs from the amp to the speakers you want to run.

If you still have no sound, hook up the black wire to ground and that is that. Good luck.

i printed out what you wrote so i could do it exactly how you said to, and i hooked the rca's from the converter to the amp, hooked the neg. pos. wires to converter, then looked on my amp and there are no outputs for anything at all, the rca jacks say input, the slots for speakers say hi input, then there are A and B side with R- and R+ and on B side there is L- and L+ and it says bridged, i was thinking about splicing an rca cable? then i could go directly from the speaker wires that come off the headunit then plug right into the rca slots on the amp? i dont know if that will work but anything else that you think might do i will consider, im not planning on thumping, just enough power to get some fairly good sound. if i did splice the wire on the rca, which one would be neg. and which would be pos.? someone please help. thanks.

Okay, you found the speaker out puts they are the r- and r+ (which is right channel - and +) and the l- and l+ (which is left channel - and +). DONT SPLICE THE RCA WIRE, your asking for problems even pros get pissed off when splicing into the RCA'S. Anyway, you dont have to splice into the RCA'S, Since you have RCA inputs you just plug them in from the converter. Now back to the L and R sides. these are your outputs, basicaly you screw the speaker wire into the positive and negative and on the other end you connect them to the speaker you want to use the amp on. Try this and let me know how it worked out for ya.

well i printed that out and tried it, but it didnt work, i guess i will just have to see if someone alittle bit more experienced will do it for me or something, but i kinda wanted to do it byself to get more experience with car audio. thanks for all the help, here is a link to the converter, i just dont think i have everything hooked up right on the converter. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1863065 and http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/724747/5

maybe you could tell me where the wires go? thanks man.

The basic info says "adjustable output" so is there a gain type knob on the converter? that could be the problem even if its hooked up right. Some i've seen are on the inside of the unit.
