Help with alternator...

I recently installed two (2) 10" hifonics brutus square subs powered by hifonics BXi1606d and wired for 1-ohm load giving roughly 500-600 wrms to each subs (since amps' ratings are usually rated on a 14.4V) on a 2-guage wire, for the seps and coax, I have a generic 4-channel amp delivering 480 watts, delivering juice to 1 set of 6x9 and 1 set of coax. I have a Mitsu Pajero and it's stock alternator is delivering 110 Amp of charge. Yet after about an hour of continuous bass thumping, when I switch off my car and try to fire it after about 1-10 mins, it's having a hard time starting, funny though is that if I leave the car rested for atleast an hour it fires up with ease, it started when I had my car audio installed.

Now I'm thinking: is it with the ground? wires? do I need to change alternator to 150-200 amp? do I need to add a second battery to power the sound system alone? would a farad capacitor help? (although I can't see how since I don't experience dimming with my headlights)

Need help guys.... THANKS!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

A few things, that 4 channel is not putting out 480w. I have never had a problem with my battery or electrical like that. Have you ever not played your bass while driving? Do that and see if it will start again.

Since your lights are not dimming when you thump, Im pretty sure it's not your electric. However I would do the big 3, because it always help. However in my opnion, I think your starter is going out. Take it off, and go get it tested at Autozone, or where ever.

Maybe it's just the battery //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I doubt it. If it is a low voltage battery, wouldn't his lights dim when he's thumping?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

You would think so. But it seems like the first/easiest place to start troubleshooting.

First off, your issue is the battery type, not that it is necessarily defective. The reason why letting it sit for a period of an hour or so helps is because it gives it some time to cool back down and allow the electrolyte to remix. Usually batteries give more power when warm, but they also empty at a faster rate as well. So there is a phenomenon that happens there. A cold battery will give you less current, but it will take much longer to empty it. A hot battery will give you much more current, but it will take an exponentially shorter time to empty it. That short period maybe only a second in some circumstances. You need to monitor your voltages with a DMM when having these types of problems.

Now what you need is a better battery. Any of the major brand AGM batteries will be a big upgrade for you. The largest you can buy for the stock location should be a good start. Monitor your voltage at the amp after installing it to see if you need another in the rear.

The reason you may not see any dimming might be because you never see a higher voltage. If your voltage in your car is always low, you won't see the brightness potential of the headlights which make the dimming more pronounced.

I also see that you are from the Philippines, so finding an Autozone might be a little hard for you. I have never been to the Philippines, but I am sure you have auto parts stores of some type. Ask them if they do battery testing. Here in the USA it is a free service.

They have autozones in Manila?
